Diar Courier This is the second
day of our corps in camps, and matters
begin to assumo a sort of inator-of-
courso air—a homo like feeling of con
tentment and good nature is now soon
upon the countonanees of “the soldier
men,” instead of the uneasy Mato and
disagreoablo strangeness of yesterday.
Camp Vtvun is five miles below Ma
rietta, and 1ms hitlioi to been knewn ns
the Smyrna Camp Mooting Ground. It
is u beautiful grove, now neatly clenrod
off, and, in all respects, is a roally de
lightful. .place. There are fourteen of
tho old camp meeting tents still stand
ing and in tolerablo condition. Theso
nro occupied—two by tho commissary
department— (on© for provisions for j
the men, tho other for forage for hor
ses.) and tho other twelve make very
comfortable quarters for (ho men- the
five officers of one company to a tout.
Besides these thero aro twelve canvass
tents,—eaoh affording pleasant quarters
for one company.
Most of the day yesterday was spent
in the, to novices, rather disagreeable
• dutios of pitching camps, providing
camp equipage and furniture and the
labors of setting up fer house keeping
generally.
It was tho writer’s fortune, in com
pany with Liout. Hull, to ho tho first
detached for guard duty. Wo wero
posted to guard the commissaries quar
ters from llj A. M. to 12J P. M , and
it was n weary pacing back and forth
wo had of it, in the hot sun.
The arrangement* not being com* |
pleto, most of tho messes had a sort of
pickod.up dinner yesterday, but since
th,eh our mentis have been wholcsorao
and good enough. Tho regular dally
rations for n moss of five, is : 6 !bs.
4 os. beef, or 3 lbs. C oz. bacon : 5 lbs.
10 ox. light bread: l lb. rice; 5 oz. coffee;

Hear Courier:
Tho noise, eon fusion
and hubbub generally about a Military
camp of volunteers aro plead in extenu
ation for the want of perspicuity and
method in these letters. Tho one da
ted April 24th was retained and, by
mistake, some sheets of blank paper
sent instead.
Thero are now as reportol twenty-
eight companies represented in tho
encampment. The men are all in ex
cellent health and spirits, and aro lear
ning the science of war as fast as pos-
siblo. Thero probably never was on
assemblage of men moreoagor to learn,
than are the officors at Camp Brown.
There is not in all tho Camp n murmur
of complaint, nor any grumbling about
hard fare or the fatigues of duty. In
fact it would be very ungracious for
any one to find fault, for so far as tho
aots of our excellent officers, Gen.
Phillips and Major Capers, are concorn-
ed./i/u/tisa thing that cannot be found:
rind, beside, the men are not. disposed
to forge them.
Tho tactics of camp are regular, sys
tem and order prevailing in all things,
and business now moves on, not ex
actly “like clock work,” but yet
with ns much procision as could bo
expected from a volunteer corps. Wo
