the Federal authorities at about 11

The steamer Winslow, which left

terday, arrived here ubout ten o’clock

Citizen, of Capt. Lamb’s company, who
escaped and canto up, wo gather tlio
following particulars:
The Federal steamers, eleven in num
ber, commenced tho bombardment on
Wednesday, and tho Forts, Chirk and
Hattoras roturned tho fire. It was kept
up till daik with but littlo loss on our
sido. On yesterday morning tlio con
flict was renewed nml continued till
about 11 o’clock, when, alter a despi-
rato resistance, our forces wore compell
ed to surrender, and the whole gurri-
aro now held as prisoners,
few who escaped.

liam, Major Andrews, and all tlio cap

injured. Probably amputation will ho
necessary. Tho dead body of a Mr.
Tindoll, wo beliovo, from Lenoir, was

Lt. Citizen says our man fought
bravoly until thoy woro compelled to
surronder, and tho defeat to our arms
is only to bo attributed to tho superiori
ty of tho fleet over our batteries. Tlio
