A Rich Exposure,
Tho Dispatch of yesterday (says tho

that they could , take nothing with

ten by a nephew of So ward, who seems
a very promising young knave, to that
most consumuto of public villains, and
contains a confession that lying is a part
of their tactics in the war. The fact
was long sinco discovered lieie, and 1iuh
oome to be pretty generally tjhderatcod
in Europe, but lias not before been
acknowledged. We have no doubt
th/it, if it were possible to get at the

.Is a regular Bureau of Lying at Wash

is enjoined on all Generals, Editors, cor

fully apt at imitation. But to tho let

Dsar Unci*: I got here from the

time to write you tut n few lines now,

1 rend you half a dosen copies of the
various Richmond papers, captured by
some of our cavalry last night. By
reading them you will sec that the reb

liavo not been routed in Kentucky!—
The Whig’s editorial says it never ex
pected success there while the rebel ar

als 1 And the Examiner is still iu a
state of painful anxiety about tile battle
of Forryvillo!
It seems that they hare received dis
patches from Gen. ForreBt, and numer
ous other Southern sources telling of
their victory, but Bragg’s official report
lias not been received, and tlioy have
seen the Federal papers, and ns these
do not admit a defeat to the Union anny,
the Southerners really doubt whether
any has occurred 1 Is not this another
evidenco of the wisdom of your policy
in regurd to tho Northern press? Gen.
Scott was right in saying that falsifica
tion was a necessary part of the machin
ery of war. In this war it is a powerful
aid, as the Southern press republish and
seem to credit so much of wliat we
choose to give.to our papers.
Push your policy ns to the press still

see that it is easier fur them to'inun
date and cheat us out of out estates in
peace than in war. Henceforth, so they
inform this gentleman, .he wtir is to be
conducted on the civilized principles,
no picket-firing to be allowed; private
property and private citizens to be re

appointed to inuo an address to the
people of tho Confederacy in regard
to encouraging Southern literature and
fostering the production of Southern
School Books.
The Charlotte Jhmoeraf states that
‘during tho discussions in the Associa

known that the want of School Books
in this Stato was being supplied to
tome extent by North Carolina authors.
Professors Sterling and Campbell, of
Greensboro’, have already issued sever
al thousand copies of two Readers and
a Spelling Book, and we leurn that the
demand is so great for those books ithat
they are unable to supply it at present.
Prof. Smythe, of .Lexington, 1ms issued,
a Grammar which hat also met with
good sale and great demand. Prof.

of publication an Arithmetic which we

the Southern public when it is put in

scarcity of printing materials at this

Cotton Yarns—Roswell Fuctory.
The following is an extract from a
letter from Geo. H. Camp, the agent o
the Roswell Factory to the Macon
Journal:
“We are retailing yarn here in large
quantities each day at $3 per bunch
when a moment's reference to your
Atlanta exchange, will demonstrate
the fact that we supply your county
not only, but residents of nearly every
county in Upper Georgia, with yarn at
but little over one-third the market
price, which Is now eight dollars. This
concession in price from tke market
pricu is the result of no pressure, aside
from the wants of tlie country, and ai
our desire is solely to benefit the coun

needy at a price they can afford to pay.’’
