'The editor of the Jackson Crisis has
sren a gentleman direct from Missouri,

learns from him the following interest
ing intelligence from that oppressed
State: *
•Thotruo hearted Southern people of
the Staten re as hopeful und sanguine of
tho final success of our cause ns our
bravo soldiers hero in'tho army. T!«e
peoplsdo not feel Hint they are par bund'
parcel of tho Lincoln empire, but nro
waiting patiently for tho day to arrive
when' they can openly avow their nllo-
ginneu to tho Confederacy. The late
elections in tlie State, in which the
abolitionists were successful, have only
caused thepeopla to set a higher esti
mate upon the value of Southern ipde-
poiidcnce. Tlie sentiments of tho truo
Southern people have not been chang
ed by tho tyranny of a military govern
ment, wh.lo the eyes of many of tlie
former Union men hnve been openod
to see tho enormity of' Federal usurpa-;
tions, and their views have been accord--
ingly changed.
Tlie late elections,, be says, do, by no-
means, reflect tlie sentiment of t lio pco-.
pie; but few, comparatively, of the
Southern men participated in the elec
tion—Where they did vote, they voted
for men known to be Southern'll-, souti-
ment.
The prices of articles will look strange
to some in the S«uth. Crops of every
description were abundant—better than
for several years. Corn sells at $4 25
per barrel of five bushels; pork §2,50;
bacon ti to 8 cents; coffee 50 conts; su
gar 25 cent-; wheat 70 cents; hfemp $3
to $3 60; tobacco high, and stock of all
kinds commnndiug a high-price. Gold
is very scarce, but “greenbacks” are very
abundant and at a heavy discount.
