Jim Fisk, whom a writer in the West minister Review , has so very cleverly re viewed, and pronounced his miud "extraor dinarily fertile in ideas and expedients— while ins conversation was tilled with unu- al imaacs and strange forms of speech," aaionu many other apt hits, never hit a more happy and appropriate nail on the head than lie did when he cropped the ears of “our noble President — Ulyses the first, and turned him loose on the world as "the National Hug.'’ This characteristic not only befits him ill his public and official acts, but it is still more appropriately becoming in his private and personal conduct and mannert. If in the selfish greed of bribery, gold, horses, houses and lands, he evinced a hog ish trait, that trait was still lurther devel oped in his uttjr lack of dignity of charac ter his gross ignorance of the proprieties of life, and bis indecent disregard of the refined sens! ilities of the people, and the respect of public opiuiou as to deliberately and leisurely enter a church—the house ol God—filled with worshipers, ou a Sabbath morning, and walk down the entire leng'h of the aisle with his bat on his head, and a huge cigar in his mouth. Such a creature, would be called a heath en hog, and yet this fellow Grant was re eently guilty of such a monstrous breech of decency. At the Methodist Church in Washington he habitually enters and tra verses the lisle without removing his hat, and hegishly puffing his cigar. And Fisk was right when he called him the National Hog. We are glad to learn that Col J. C. Yei- j sor of this city has received aud accepted the agency ot Nonh Western Georgia for the Northwestern Mulua; Life Insurance Company. By this sale this company keeps 1-10 more money loaned out corresponding at the high rate ot 10 per cent interest, secured on real estate than most companies. 1-5 more than is re quired by the New \ork standard.
