gladened yesterday by the sight of a much
prettier one, which might very poetically
be called Bacchus amoDg the roses for it
was a beautiful silver basket, filled with
rich, ripe and delicious grapes, whose pur

grant leaves of geranium, verbena and rose,
bejeweled by the snowy petals of the tube
rose.
This delicious treat was from the kindly
hand of Miss Sue Veal, and as wc inhaled
its rich fragrance we wished for the power
of aD Anarcreon, that we might thank iu ap

that I am again a citizen of Romo. My

services of Mr. S. J. Stevens, yet with Mrs.
C. E. Caldwell, who will bring her active
energies to the position in the school she
has so long and so successfully occup : cd-

will re-open the College with cheerfulness

the Faculty as the necessities of the school
may require.
Unusual advantages will be enjoyed by
children in the Primary Department who
will have gratuitous lessons in Vocal Mu

Young Ladies of the city not connected
with the school may take lessons of the

way satisfactory to all who desire a thorough
education f r their daughters. No chang

A Kuklnx Scare.
Little Rock, Ang. 2.—On Sunday
last the congregation at the colored church
in Jefferson county were stampeded by an
old colored man, who dressed himself in
the garb of the Kuklnx and entered the
building in the middle of thc services.
Every person in tho house made a rush
for the door, and took to the woods, as
the old man entered dressed in his pe
culiar garb, leaving the preacher, who con
tinued to exhort his imaginary hearers.
Advancing toward the preacher, the'old
negro gave him a sound cursing and left
the house. He was arrested the next day
and fined fifty dollars for disturbing wor
shipers, and twenty-five dollars for cursing
the preacher, besides the costs and lec
ture on his misconduct.

six bars of the requisite length, to extend
from the bead to the shoulder. Bore two
holes in each, close to the respective ends.
Carry a rope through tho boles at the an
terior ends, and another through them at
the posterior ends by wbicb to tie around
tbeneck; have the bars kept at appropri
ate distances from each other by knots on
the rope. If properly adjusted, this frill
put a stop to the sucking.—Toronto Globe.
Debility and Kmaciatiou*
Koth result from the lack of ability to convcit
thc loud into nutriment. £Iuw necessary then,
for those suffering from these alarming symp
toms to immediately resort to a remedy that will
strengthen the stomach and digestive organa.—
For, ns soon as this desirable object has been
accomplished, thc health improves, aud tiie pa
tient resumes his usual por*onal appearance.—
Hostettcr's Stomach Bitters hare attained a world
wide popularity in such cases, and have beta
proven the best and safest means of removing
constipation, toning thc stomach, giving energy
to the liver, and relieving every symptom of
nervousness and depression of spirits. Its cheer*
ing and beneficial effects are highly spoken of
by thousands, who owe to it their restoration of
health. Xo restorative in the annals of medi
cine has attained the same popularity in the
short space of time it has been before the public,
or has won thc high endorsements accorded to
this excellent tonic. Many other preparations,
purporting to be correctives and restoratives,
have been introduced, and have perished one by
one, while thc popularity of Hostetter’s Stomach
Bitters continues to increase, and is now rccog*
nixed as a standard household medicine. The
success which attends thc use of tho Bitters
evinces at once its virtues in all eases of dellli-
tjr and disease of thc stomach. CcrtiGc&tcs al
most without number, have been published, at
testing its truly miraculous power in removing
those painful and fearful diseases And at this
time it seems idle to do more than call attention
to the great remedy of the age, in order to awak
en public alter tion to its excellence. It is the
only preparation of thc kind that is reliable in
cases, and it is therefore recommended to the
consideration of the afflicted.
A lYOKD TO ADVERTISE US*
The boasting oi certain newspaper pub
lishers in this section of country, renders it
proper for us to call the attention of adver
tisers to the following indisputable facts;
Thc Home Courier has been published
continually for over twenty*six years—ex
cept a suspension of 15 months by the war
—and the last sistceu years by the present
proprietor. There is no other paper in this
section that is even six years old. The
Courier was the last paper ia the Cherokee
country to suspend during thc war, nod the
first to resume publication after its close.
This paper has alvyays enjoyed a fair
portion of public confidence, and particu
larly since the war has constantly increased
in circulation, but never so rapidly as dur
ing the past six months.
The laws of Georgia require that all the
legal advertising of the respective counties
shall be done u in the nearest newspaper
having thc largest circulation, or a genera)
circulation in the county. 1 ' Under this law
the Courier now receives the advertising of
Floyd, Polk, Ilaralson, Walker and Dade
counties, and were there not a paper pub
lished in that county, would be entitled to,
that of Chattooga also.
No other paper in Home now receives the
legal advertising of even one county.
With these facts before them, advertisers
can easily determine thc merits of the
Conner as an advertising medium.

Tour Extinguishers were very effectual at a

under way before discovered, having undoubt

hours. The room in which the fire caught is on
the fourth story, and when I reached it, all the

and the firo had spread some distance from
where it started.
If it hud not been. fur the Extinguishers, it
