The Superintendents of the Stove Fac

stoves, notwithstanding they are turning
out large numbers daily. A good opening
for more capital. The Stoves they are put

Northern and Western Stoves, simply be
cause the Iron is better and don’t cost as
much, and there is no frei - ht on them.

THE BOOKS OF THE CHRON
ICLES OF GEORGIA.
To meet the great demand for these popu-
lar Ciironici.es, we have concluded to have
them published in book form. They will
make a neat volume in paper covers, and
every one who has read them ns they avpear
cd in the Courier, will be glad to Ii'avo them
in a permanent form. The historic truth, as
well as the keenness of their sarcasm, and
quaint pleasantness of their style, has made
them welcome visitors to every household into
which they have entered.
The book will be ready by the 25th of De
cember, and will be mailed, postage free, to
any address for 75 cts per copv.
For Clubs, with the Courier, we will send
them as follows:
One copy Curonicees and the Weekly
Courier, 1 year, § 2 50.
Six copies Chronicles and six Weekly
Couriers, 1 year S 12 50.
Ten copies Chronicles and ten Weekly
Couriers, 1 year $ 20 00.
Admitted to the Bah.—Clns. G.
•lanes, sou of Wm. F. Janes, and grand
son of Wm. Peek, of Folk Co., was, on
last Tuesday, at Cedar Town, examined in
open Court, and admitted to practice Law
in the Superior Courts of this State.
Mr. Junes passed a splendid examina
tion. and promises to make a One Lawyer.
He has our best wishes.
Convicted at Folk Superior Court
—The following convictions were had at
Polk Court last week:
Ben. Hutchins, negro, for burglary.
Sentenced 10 years in penitentiary.
Jordon Pryor, negro, assault with inteut
to murder. Sentenced 3 years in peniten
tiary.
Sheltou Russel, Charles Foster and Nel
son West, all negroes, convicted of Larceny.
These are the parties who stole beeves and
brought them to Rome. Sentence; fine of
8100 each, or six months in jail.
T. G. W. McMeekm was convicted of
keeping open a tippling house on the Sab
bath. Sentence; fine of 8300, or six
months in jail. Case appealed to Supreme
Court.
This ease is peculiar; Mr. McMeekin
had two rooms adjoiuing, one room wus en
tircly unoccupied and stood o; en at all
times, day and night. In the partiton be'
tween the rooms is a revolving table, one-
half being ir; either room, with names of
liquors and j rices marked on it Now it
appears if a person shoo'd go in to the va
cant rep in on the Sabbath, or any other
time, and put. on the table the price of a
glass of whisky or other liquor, tun! revolve
the table, a glass of liqour would come
back to him. The question is, did he evade
the Law.

the occasion to admonish each one of his

the actioD ofthe Jury is in rather bad taste
and speaks more for the zeal of the Herald
than it does for the intelligence and hones

honest and intelligent they will bo govern

given them in charge by the Judge, with

J. II. Lumpkin,
Dee.30tw-tl. Sheriff,
Be Guided by what you Kuow.
There is an old proverb which says, “Experi
ence is the safest guide-” To this guide the sick
and ailing naturally turn when casting about
for the means of relief. They inquire what a
medicine has done for others, before they adopt
it themselves. Of all the remedies and preven
tives in use, Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters meets
the test most triumphantly, and hence its im
mense popularity aud vast sales. The sufferer
from indigestion is sure to find some one among
his friends who has been cured of that ailment
by the famous vegetable stomachic. The victim
of fever and ague, liver complaint, constipation
nervous prostration, or general debility, has only
to mako inquiry in tho neighborhood where ho
resides in order to discover what this standard
restorative has effected in cases similar to his
own. In the published testimony to its merits he
will find a volume of proofs of its sanitary piop-
ertics, which it is impossible for his common
sense to resist. He tries it, and tho effect it pro
duces on his system adds another to the host ol
witnesses in its favor. Thus, its reputation,
founded on facts, not assertions, continually
grows and spreads. Charlatans and impostors,
some of them mere local tricksters, and others
who take a somewhat wider range, attempt to
thrust into the hands and down the throats of
invalids, their haphazard concoctions, assubsti
tntes for the tonic which for so many years has
been a medicinal staple throughout the United
States, Spanish America, Canada, and the West
Indies, but only succeed to a very limited extent
In this reasoning age, the people, haying ascer
tained what is really deserving of their confi
dence, decline ‘‘running after strange gods.
