WEDNESDAY MORNING, JUNE 18
Good Advice for the Season.
Under the caption of “Keep Cool”
the Nashville Union and American of
the Gth'instant contains the following,
which we commend as appropriate to
the case of our own city.
“Very good advice, you say, but
difficult to follow, in this sultry term.
But we refer to the mental temperature,
net the physical, and we say, keep cool;
don’t get excited; do not allow yourself
to be alarmed with each flying rumor
thatgathers to mountainous proportions
in its slip shod flight from mouth to
mouth. Two weeks ago we^published
the fact that the medical authorities of
New Orleans were recording deaths
from sporadic cholera in that city.
Those who watch our telegraphic
columns have been cognizant for some
time of the existence of the disease in
Porto Rico. Rumors of its migration
up the Mississippi by steamer, have
been rife for some weeks. But the pub
lication of a telegram from Memphis
yesterday, openly recognizing tire
presence of the fearful scourge there,
has perhaps created here an excite
ment more wide spread than wise.
