ADVERTISES in Mr. Smith's pa

Builder! If he had inserted the latter and
omitted the former, it might have been
looked over ; but no man who is well in

The lumber he has put together on Col.

Mr. Clark. EPHRAIM BROWN.
Jan. i.
MeJJrs. Randolph & Buncb,
I OBSERVE in your la ft, a piece under
the figuaturc of Ephraim Brown, attack
.ng my profellional character, but which
I (hould not deem worthy of notice were
it not for his ill judged remarks refpeCting
certain Cornices with which he appears
displeased becaule, perhaps he was not con
sulted as to their form. To the public it
is proper to observe, that Architects in ge
neral do not confider themselves particu
larly confined to execute a Cornice, at
tached to the front of any buildings
in drift conformity to any of the five or
ders of Architecture, unlef» the order is
executed at large. Therefore on fimall
modern buildings, where convenience is
prefered, to regular attention to orders of
Architecture, Architects find themselves at
liberty to pieale their own taltr, or that of
their employers ; and in a union both
their tastes is preserves; as proportion
HrcelDxy.to attend to.
Being however in fomc measure a
stranger in this place, I fed no disposition
to enter into new-paper controversy on
this fubjeft, especially as for this nnpro
voked attack, I have referred Mr. Brown
'o the laws of his country. At the fame
.time wi filing to give fatisfaCtion to my
Vriends ; any gentleman having atalle for
flic science of Architecture who may wifli
■n examine my abilities therein, and m>
■>roie!lioiia! (kill or experience in the exe
wtion of building, can at any time have
wrien lly interview with me, at Mr. S.
Amith’s, where also gentlemen who pro
'jTofe building the ensuing season may be
accommodated with plans for city or
; country iituations, on convenient and tally
fit) les.

I certify that my daughter and son were
for lome time exceeding ill with a most vi

pains in the stomach and bowels, loft ap
petite, yellow skin, and great laffittide and
weakntfs, insomuch that I expefted they
nevtr would recover; after trying various
remedies to no effect, I made use of Lee’s
New-London Bilious Pills; then in great
repute in the yellow fever in New-Lon
don. They were attended with the most
aftonifliing tffefts and performed a cure
greatly beyond my cxpe&ation. I use
them in my family in all cases where I
judge the complaints proceeds from in
teltinal maladies and find them to answer
the best of pnrpofes. I am convinced
that I very often save the expence of doc

A tidied cases of Yellow Fever.
CASE I.
James Miller, a lad about 12 years of
age, was Attacked with the Yellow Fever
in September last, the parents endeavored
to throw off the disease by purgative oils,
inje&ions, Jalep, &c. but could get noth
ing through him. The third clay I was
called I found him in the second stage of
fever, with the black vomit and red pete
chial spots on his Ikin, he had no evacua
tion from his bowels, but ejected every
thing which he took—l administered two
of the pills, and he kept them down ; the
3d was given 2 hours after—and within 6
hours regular paftages was produced, at
which time the black vomit began to a
bate, and with the use of aqua calcis and
his ordinary medicines he recovered, be
yond the expeftation of any of the family.
C A S E 11.
John Weld, nurse at the hospital was
leized with the fever in all its violence,
attended with the usual symptoms of cons
tipated bowels, deliriums, vomitings, &c.
&c. he was bled, took the pills every day,
and although he was brought to the verge
of the grave, from having an uncommon
share of the disease, he recovered and al
ways felt immediate relief from the effetts
of the pills.
CASE 111.
I was attacked myfelf with the fever the
last of September, from imprudently going
into an infe&ed roonf with four sick per
sons in it early in the morning upon an
empty stomach. I was bled, and kept my
stomach and bowels constantly affected by
the pills, and recovered without the use of
any ocher remedies except calomel in al
terative doses. I felt an immediate sen
sation of tafe and relief from every dose I
took, and aKvac s felt myfelf secure from
that alarming symptom the black vomit
whenever they parted through the stomach.
and I ever found this the case with ail my
patients; my wife and two servants in my
family were ill of the fever, but happily
recovered upon a free use of the pills.
Tftefe pills were the only medicines I
used for the purpose of cleansing the firft
pafTages, and for preventing the black vo
mit, whenever they were given and pro
duced liberal evacuation, they never failed
to answer this purpose in all cases, even
1 pregnant women could take them
the happiest effefls. ' With
