A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS I have received official
information under oath of the
%SherifFof the county of Hancock, f/jat two
convi&ed criminals called William Muf
grove and Nathan Tait , confined under len
ience of death tor forgery, in the common
jail of the said county, did on the night of
the twenty-fifth of Fchruarv last part,
make their escape therefrom—and their
persons are thus described :
“William Musgrove. supposed to
“ have been about thirtv-five'years of age,
dark complexion, a good deal pitted
“ with the fmail-pox, short black hair, a
“ about five feet eight inches high, strong
“ made.”
“Nathan Tait, supposed to have
“ been about twenty-five vents of age,
“ five feet nine inches high, light Co'our
“ hair, pale complexion, rather (lender
“ made ”
I have therefore thought fit , to i flue this mv
Proclamation, offering a reward of one hun
died dollars, to any perlon or persons who
will seize ei’ber of the aforementioned
criminal-, and Judge them or either of
them in the jail of the countv of Hancock,
or forhe other secure jail in this state.
AND I DO HEREBY, charge and
require all ollicers, civil and military be
longing to this Hate, to be aiding and as
sisting in feizmganil securing the said con
victed criminals.

of this state, at the State- Hoofe in fonts

WHEREAS his Excellency JAMES
jACKbON, late Governor an
Commander in Chief, hath this dav ac
cepted the appointment of Senator from
this state, in the Congress of the United
States, agreeably to his eleftion thereto,
on the eighteenth day of November, in
the year eighteen hundred, by the lejfla
t:re, ami hath figoified to me his refigna
rm of the Government.
AND WHEREAS, the fourth
of the feconct article of the conftitutton de
clares “ in case of ihe death, or refigna
“ tton or difabilitv of the governor, the
“ president of the senate fliall exercise the
“ executive powers of government, until
“ such disability be removed, or until the
“ next meeting of the genera! aflembly
by virtue of which the duties of the exe
cutive have devolved on me.
1 have therefore thought fit , to iflue this
my Proclamation, hereby notifying all offi
cers civil and military, that I have affiimed
the chief magistracy of this state, and am
now in the acftual exercise of the duties
thereof—Of which all persons are required
to take due notice, as they will answer the
sontrary at their peril.
GIVEN under my hand and the Great
Seal of this state, at the State- House
in Louisville, the third day of March,
in the year of our Lord eighteen hun
dred and one , and of American Inde~
