Com. Stewart.— A number of the
particular friends, and early associates
of this distinguished officer, availed
themselves of his short visit to his na

Mr. Dupuy; and the party spent the |

Capt. Yellowly, who was accused of
having murdered a passenger in his
boat, in Pasquotank river, (Vir.) a short
time since, and of having sunk him in a
blanket filled with stones, has through a
friend published a refutation of the
statement, supported by four afli lavits,
in which it is stated that the passenger
in question died of sickness, .and all on
board.were so ill at the same time as to
be unable to carry the body ashore, and
it was in consequence decided to sink it.

FOR THE’ HERALD.
Mr. Buxce,
AS the communication sent
you on Mmida v, seems to have been
u too late for your last paper,” it will
be unnecessary now to insert it, as a
continuation of the argument on the
subject to which it relates would not
probably be attended with much public
benefit. As a matter of justice how
ever, 1 cannot but regret that the real
ly fine writing and figurative illustra
tions of Baldwin’s last publication in
your paper, should have lost in a con
siderable degree their force and beauty
from being wholly misapplied. Ihe
merit of any production is in no degree
varied by the author’s being known;
i and it would not seem to be an evidence
of extraordinary prudence to attempt
i unequivocally to designate any author
| on suspicion merely; and I am sorry
I tint in this respect, Baldwin should
! have been so incautious ; for I can as
] sure him that notwithstanding what he
| may have seen and “ heard at Court,”
I he is altogether in an error as to the
1 author of the “ Spirit of Georgia and
as this spirit has not left the Body of
j its own state, it would be unfair to
charge its imperfections on a neighbor
ing territory.
