GEORGIA LEGISLATURE.
On Tuesday last both branches of
the Legislature were duly organized-
In Senate the Hon. Matthew Talbot
was re-elected President and William
Robertson, Esq. Secretary, both with
out opposition. The House of Repre
sentatives made choice of Gen. David
Adams for their Speaker Adams >3 —
Witt 44 —William Turner, Esq. was
re-elected Clerk of the House without
opposition.
Not much other business was done
last week in consequence of the differ
ent elections, particularly that of Go
vernor, the result of which we have sta
ted in another paragraph'.
On Saturday Nicholas Ware, Esq.
Was elected Senator from tins state in
the Congress of the U. States to fill the
Vacancy of Maj. Freeman Walker,
who lately resigned that honorable sta
tion. Col. S. Groves was elected on
the same day one of the commissioners
of the Land Lottery ; and Nat. B.
Bond, Esq. Solicitor General of the
Eastern District in place of Mr. Law
resigned.
Among the notices given by mem
bers for the appointment of committees
to have bills reported, we select the fol
lowing as most prominent, so far as we
had opportunity to examine the Jour
nals :
By Mr, Tankerslev — r o amend the
7th sec. Ist article of the Constitution
of this state for the purpose of reducing
the number of the representatives.
By Mr. R J« »nes l o incorporate
the Georgia mutual Assurance Compa
ny.
By Mr. Daniel—‘To reduce the fees
of county and other public officers of
this 'tate.
By -lr. Townsend—To compensate
the judges of the Inferior Court
By VI r. Montfort— * o alter and a
tueml the 2d. sec. of the 2d. article of
the Constitution. (That article pres
cribes the mode of elecling the Gover
nor of the State —the object in view, is,
we suppose, to place the election of
Caief Magistrate in the hands of the
people instead of the Legislature.)

THE MAIL ROBBER.
We have a3 yet received no news of
the apprehension of the person who rob

more lucky than his, predecessors -he
not only got possession of a larger booty,
but there seems now a probability of
his escaping with it.

The interest excited in England to

the fact that in a late contest between
Randal and Martin for three hundred
guineas a side, it was calculated there
were not less than ten thousand per

the circle formed by the carriages was
excessively thronged, and on being beat
