TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1321.
The City Council of Savannah, have
appointed Wednesday, the 12th inst.
a day of Thanksgiving and Prayer to
God for the many blessings conferred
upon the inhabitants of that city.
MORE PIRATES CAPTURED.
An extra slip from the office of the
Norfolk Beacon, dated £7th ult. receiv
ed yesterday, contains the following
intelligence:
Arrival of the Hornets Prize. —We !
are happy to announce the safe arrival 1
in this port, this morning at half past j
9 o’clock, of the piratical schr. Moscow,
prize to the United States sloop of war 1
Hornet, Capt. Robert lleni.ey, under
charge of Midshipman W. H. Kf.nnon,
prize-master. The Moscow was cap
tured on the 28th October, between
Cuba and St. Domingo. Her crew !
consisted of nineteen men, five of whom
have arrived in the prize ; the remain
ing fourteen were left on board the
Hornet. The pirate was armed with one
small cannon, musketry, cutlasses, pis
tols, knives, &c. &c.
Midshipman Kennon reports, that
he parted company witli the Hornet on
the 29th October,at sea —all well. The
Moscow has experienced very heavy
weather, and had a passage of 28 days.
The crew were all foreigners, consist
ing of Spaniards, Portuguese, Italians,
Africans, Si,c. [ Char. Couner.
United S'ates Schr. Porpoise.— Capt.
1 Skinner, of the schr. Swan, arrived at
New-York on the 28th ult. from La
Guira, reports, that the day previous to
his sailing, he was told by a gentleman
direct from 't. Thomas, that the United
States schr. Porpoise had captured to
windward of Porto Rico ’he Spanish
privateer schr. Ptincheta, of one long 24
pounder and four waist guns, with a
crew of 100 men, and ordered her to
St Thomas, where she had arrived.
The Punchetn is the privateer that cap
tured the American brig Rising States,
on the 24th of August last off La Guira.”
We think the above report erroneous,
because the Porpoise boarded on the
21st ult off Matanzas, the schr. Sam
uel Smith, arrived at this pott on the
26th ult. and the boarding officer in
formed Capt. Saywaru that they had
taken nothing. lJb,d.
The President of the United States
has issued his proclamation, repealing
the discriminating duties on the tonnage
of vessels, and on goods, wares and
merchandize from the Dukedom of
Olden burgh. f Ibid.
A meeting ol Merchants and others,
was held at Boston on the 23d ult. for (lie
purpose of petitioning Congress for the
passage of a Bankrupt Act. Among the
resolutions adopted, was the following :
—That a committee of three be appoiu- ]
ted to communicate the proceedings of
the meeting to those interested in the
Commercial Towns and Cities of the
United states, and to request them to
join, by petition or memorial to Con
gress, for effecting the passage of the
above act. [ Courier.
The legislature of * ennessee, have
resolved to prefer articles of impeach
ment against Gen. amuel 11. Williams,
Surveyor-General of the state, for ex
tortion and other official misdemeanors.
“ It is conjectured” says the Balti
more Chronicle, “ that our Medical Uni
versity will number nearly one hundred
afid thirty students, who will attend the
present course of medical lectures. ”
We understand that between three
and four hundred gentlemen are attend
ing the present course of Medical Lec
tures in the University of Pennsylvania,
and that the class is daily increasing.
The Baltimore Federal Gazette
States, that the number of students at the
"’Medical College, who have taken the
matriculation ticket, is 219, (not 130,
as stated on
these, there are twelve who attend the
lectures, who have not yet entered. At
the lectures of the first year, says the
American, the number of students wa3
72, last year 130 students attended,
this year 231.

We received last evening, by the fast sail
ing ship Triton, Capt. Bussey,'from Liver
pool, London papers to October 20, twelve
days later , than before received. All pro
bability of an immediate war between any of
tile powers of Europe seemed to be at an
end. Accounts from all quarters confirm tins
belief. The accounts of the progress of ttic
war in Greece, are extremely vague and un
certain.
The British Sovereign entered his German
capital Qct. 8 and was received with the
warmest • expressions of attachment. This
public entry took place on the 10th, which
was conducted with great ceremony and
parade. There was a splendid procession,
firing of cannon, ringing of bells, illumina
tions, end all the customary expressions of
rejoicing.
From the returns of the population of G.
Britain, as far as published, under the new
census, it appears that there has htien an in
crease of about 15 per cent. This increase
will make tne present population 14,01X1,000.
And 6,500,000, and the population of the
United Kingdom amounts to twenty and a
half millions.
