An I i ho of Santiago.
/cross f-e -ra of arnica J sailed one
ti.iuWcd day
llnto a painless port of rear, some wea
ry leagues away,
And anchored there my trembling craft
beneath seraneat skies
That softly smiled to light the shores
of Morphia's paradise.
But tho’ the waving palms of peace be
nignant shadows hold.
Above this quiet anchorage my dreams
fore’er unfold
The picture of two gentle hands reach
ing to ease my pain.
And 1 awake to find them not, and
pray for them—ln vain!
All uselessly T search the chart of this
new land's delight
For one who tiptoes fn nnd not to
soothe her hoy at night.
The bending hills and whispering vales
of my secure retreat
Offer the cup of health and strength
hut tiring no mother sweet.
