King. A number are suckling colts
and fillies.
They were purchased by George M.
Rommel!, animal husbandman of the
department of agriculture of the Unit
ed States, and will. It is said, form
the saddle horse department for the
experimental breeding under govern
ment supervision at Fort Collins. !

slaughter for the death of Frank
Dixon, a negro barber, whom he shot
nnd killed, June 13, In the latter's
barber shop on Piedmont avenue nnd
Harris street. Sentence lias not yet
been pronounced
It was (he contention of the de
fence that Hutchins killed Dixon only
to protect himself. It was Insisted
that the negro was advancing on him
with all open razor when ho was
l; hot. Tile prosecution Insisted that
Ihe negro was running from Hutchins
when killed.

SIX INDICTED ON

SPRINGFIELD, 111. The grand jury
has Indicted six more alleged leaders
in the recent race riots. Four of them
were Indicted four times each for ma
licious mischief, and Inciting riot, and
two were held on two charges each.
All were tho result of the destruction
of Loper's restaurant.
Those Indicted yesterday wero Er
nest Humphrey, huckster; Rudolph
Hrodmoyer. mechanic; John Schlenle,
grocery clerk; William Sutton, cab
man; Herbert Cnrrt, blacksmith, one
one other man whose Identity was
kopt. secret, at the order of Judge
Creighton, because lie Is understood
to have fled from Springfield.
It is rumored an Indictment charg
ing murder also Is to be returned
against Humphrey and more Indict
ments are anticipated against Kate
Howard* and Abraham Raymer, who Is
under serious indictments. Among
others who may be Indicted are many
living In near-by towns.
That the grand Jury haa not half
finished the task is shown by tho
statement of Assistant State’s Attor
ney Wines last night Ho said the
prosecutors were confident haif a hun
dred or more Indictments would be
returned within the next ten days.
It was decided by the authorities
that conditions are still so unsettled
that It would bn unwise to withdraw
the seventh Illinois infantry of Chl
eago, the only soldiers left to guard
the town for at least three or four
more days.
