SUCCEED SENATOR
ALLISON
DES MOINES. la-—Governor Albert
H. Cummins probably will he elected
United States senator to fill out the
unexplred portion of the term of the
late Senator Allison
This state of aflairs was brought
about by the action of ttip senate in
adopting the resolution of Senator
Lambert, democrat that a joint con
vention be held on Wednesday. Sept.
9. to elect a United States senator to
fill the vacancy caused by the death
of Senator Allison. This resolution
forced the hand of ihe stand patters,
and it was finally adopted. Had not
the democrats votfd solidly with pn
grossives against postponing consid
eration ot the resolution, the matter
would have gone over to Friday,
It is conceded that Cummins has a
majority of the republican member
ship on joint ballot, unless the stand- j
patters vote against him nr put up a
candidate of their own.
