large and commodious establishment which
has recently undergone considerable im
provements, tender their services ta thei:

Eagle _ Tavern is pleasantly situated and I
retired, and within tile immediate
vicinity of business. Jn die management
and arrangement of their house, a strict
and particular regard will be always paid
to the comfort and quiet of their custom
ers. The slightest breach of decorum can
not be tolerated within their doors. Their
Table will be furnished with the best pro
visions the market affords, and their Bar
with the choicest liquors of every descrip
tion. In their rooms and bedding a con
stant attention to neatness and cleanliness
Will be observed.
Their Stables are well supplied with
provinder, and attended by active and
faithful hostlers. And they hope their ex
ertions to please will be such as to entitle
them to a liberal share 6f public custom.

S 15 Reward.
WILL Be given for JOHN, the car
riage driver, a tall yellow, very artful and
likely fellow,.of 22 years old, of« coarse
voice, had on when lie went off, a glazed
leather hat, dark homespun pantaloonsand
a round jacket, either of blue cloth or
striped homspun. John being unwilling
to be left at a summer residence in Fair
field District, South Carolina; took on the
eleventh Instant one of his masters carri
age horses, took also a spare bridle round
bis shoulders and made bis escape to go,
as he said, to the plantation on Biack
Swamp, St Peter’s Parish, 3. Carolina. —
He rode bare backed, was traced tin to
Granby ferry below Columbia. He there
rode the same large bay horse on which
lie made his escape, the horse b (li trots
and paces, a star in hi- forehead, Ins hind
feet or pastern joints appear as if they
.vere swelled, and it is believed he has
one or both hind feet white. Five dollars
| reward will be givert jor the horse. It is
presumed John will endeavour to mnkt
ids way to Augusta, where be has an un
cle a free yellow man, perhaps by the
name of Kite, from whom he may obtain a
free pass, may alter his name and dress,
md try to make his esca te to Virginia, or
he may be employed on the river as a
boat hand. Any person who apprehends
said John and secures him so well in some
safe jail, as that the subscribe) gets him
• shall receive the above reward.

on recovery and examination of the same,
I found the follow ing papera missing, viz :
One note of hand given by said (. outteau,
made payable to myself, Ist day of Janua
ry, 1818, which Conttcau confessed he
took by leave of Mrs. Full wood. Three
jeceints of Andrew Lambert, jun. viz—one
of S2OO for cash, dated in November 1818,
ditto gl6o, for ditto, datiM in January,
1819—slitlo for two notes of hard on
Thomas Scarbrough, to me payable, Ist
day of January, 1818, for g 35 each, toge
ther with an order from said Lambert,
given Joshua Stone, to me directed, for a
note of'hand on W. YV r . Oliver/ for gj‘l3
33 1-3, payable January Ist, 1818,
which note# on presentment by Lambert
fit Stone, were honor’d by Messrs. Sc.tr.
bi'ough & Oliver. More papers of value
were also Uiken—viz; a deed for a tract
of land lying in Anslow county, N. Caro
lina, containing 300 acres, mure or less,
adjoining land# of Col. John Spieer, dec.
and others. Several merchants account#
current, bond#, receipts, acceptances and
others, that! could not particularly recite
in schedule by warrant of search before
John Koyal, Esq.—on w hich we found ma
ny goods, and chattels in said CoutteauV
possession. Last named paper#, I held
vouchers in a suit at law in I-kphly, as heir
and acting executor, vs. the executor to
the last will and testament, of Mnj. Hurst,
sen. lute of Scriven county, deceased, for
arrears of said executor to said decedent’s

handed my attorneys, - -
AH of which 1 should have published
before, had I not entertained a hope that
the same would be dropped, or placed
where I could recover them, without pre
ferring a hill of ndictment, and being uni

Mr Coutteau and my affectionate wile this
painful reflection.
A liberal reward will be given for the
recovery of the aforesaid papers, or any
part thereof— particularly Mr. Lambert’s
