SOMETIME between the 10th and 24th
of June, 18J8, while absent, my trunk
was taken from home to the house of
Charles Coutteau, of Burke county, and
on recovery and examination of the same,
1 found the following papers missing, viz :
One note of hand given by said Coutteau,i
made payable to myself, Ist day of Jaima- :
ry, 1818, which Coutteau confessed he <
took by leave of Mrs. Full wood. Three
receipts of Andrew Lambert, jun. viz—one
of §209 for cash, dated in November 1818, c
ditto SldO, for ditto, dated in January, c
1819 —ditto for two notes of band on t
Thomas Scarbrough, to me payable, Ist 1
day of January, 1818, for $25 each, toge- 1
liter with an order from said Lambert,
given Joshua Stone, to me directed, for a
note of hand on W. W. Oliver, for $333
33 1-3, payable January Ist, 1818,
which notes on presentment by Lambert
& Stone, were honor’d by Messrs. Scar
brough More papers of value t
were also taken—viz; a deed for a tract
of land lying in Anslow county, N. Caro- (
lina, containing 390 acres, more or less,
adjoining lands of Col. John Spieer, dec. '
and others. Several merchants accounts
current, bonds, receipts, acceptances and 1
others, that 1 could not particularly recite '
in schedule by warrant of search before
John Royal, Esq.—-on which we found ma
ny goods, and chattels in said Coulteau’s
possession. Last named papers, 1 held
vouchers in a suit at law in Equity, as heir
and acting executor, vs. the executor to
the last will and testament of Maj. Hurst,
sen. late of Scriven county, deceased, for
arrears of said executor to said decedent’s
estate, viz. $2734 79J, as ptr schedule
handed my attorneys.
All of which I should have published '
before, had 1 not entertained a hope that i
the Itame would be dropped, or placed
where I could recover them, without pre

der the disagreeable necessity of giving
Mr.Coutteau and my affectionate wife tills
painful reflection.
