SOMETIME between tlie lOlli and 24th
of June, 1813, while absent, my trunk
was taken from home to the house of
Charles Coutteau, of Burke county, and
on recovery and examination of the same,
I found the following papers missing, viz:
One note of hand given by said Coutteau,
tnade payable to myself, Ist day of Janua
ry, 1818, which Coutteau confessed he
took by leave of Mrs. Full wood. Three
receipts of Andrew Lambert, jim. viz—one
of g2oofor cash, dated in Wovemherlßlß,
ditto g 160, for ditto, dated in January,
1819—ditto for two notes of hand on
Thomas Scarbrough, to me payable, Ist
day of January, 1818, for $23 each, toge
ther with an order from said Lambert,
given Joshua Stone, to me directed, for a
note of hand on W. W. Oliver, for $.3.3.3
J 3 1-.3, payable January Ist, 1818,
which notes on presentment by Lambei-i
k Stone, were honor’d by Messrs, Scar
broilgh ti Oliver. More papers of value
were also taken—viz: a deed for a tract
of land lying in Anslow county, N. Caro
lina, containing 300 acres, more or less,
adjoining lands of Col. John Spicer, dec.
and others. Several merchants accounts
current, bonds, receipts, acceptances and
others, thatl could not particularly recite
in schedule by warrant of search before
John Royal, Esq.—on which we found ma
ny goods, and chattels in said Coutteau’s
possession. Last named papers, I held
vouchers in a suit at law in Equity, as heir
and acting executor, vs. the executor to
the last will and testament of Maj. Hurst,
sen. late of Scriven county, deceived, for
arrears of said executor to said decedent’s
estate, viz. $27 >4 70$, as per schedule
handed my attorneys.
All of which I should have published
before, had I not entertained a hope thal
tlie same would be dropped, or placed
where I could recover them, without pre
ferring n bill of indictment, and being on.
d -r the disagreeable necessity of giving
Mr Coutteau an«l my affectionate wife this
painful reflection. >
A liberal reward will be given for the
recovery ol the aforesaid papers, or anv
part thereof-—particularly Mr. Lambert's
—as, fortunately, I have recourse to re
