upon them to reciprocate as much as pos

make a competent return, they embraced
every opportunity to gratify those who

There still exists a contrariety of opin
ion in relation to the character and extent
.f the disease which is now prevailing in
Savannah. The Museum by last evening’s
mail furnishes us with the following;—
Savirptar, August 19.
We understood that a report of tlie Me
dical Society, respecting the health ot
our city, was drawn up and presented to
Council. It was expected that this report
would have been published; and we were
even told that it was in the hands of the
city printer for that purpose. Since,
which, we have learnt, ti’at council have
’ !iad a meeting upon the subject, and so
tar are they from Consenting to the publi
cation «t the report, that they have sent
it back to the society for alteration and
correction. It seems to us thatjs a strange
j proceeding.
, Are council afraid that it might contra-
P diet their former statements? And do
they believe that tho inhabitants of this
city are blind ?
Fite truth will be known, and it will be
believed, that the situation of our city
" continues to be alarming. We repeat it
—it is not only useless but dangerous and
ungenerous, to endeavor to conceal the
fact, it is well known, that the prevail
ing fever is not only frequent in its attacks,
but very malignant in its nature ; and is
t not at this time confined to any particu
lar portion of the city. Let them call the
disease theenderaia! fever, the billions fe
ver, the yellow fever, or the black vom
it—still its effects are very mortal.
