Art. ii. After a non-commissioned
officer, er soldier, £hall have beer iluly inlif
ted and sworn, he (hall not be difmifl'ed the
service without a difeharge in writing; and
no difeharge granted to him (hall be fuffi
cicnr, which is not signed by a field officer
of the regiment to which he belongs, or
v commanding officer, where no field officer
of the regiment is present j and no difeharge
(kail be given t* a nofi-commiffioncd officer,
or soldier, before bis term of service htfs ex
pired, but by order of the Ptefidcnr, the
Secretary of War, the commanding r fficcr
of a department, or tie fcntence of a general
court martial, nor foall a ccnmiiflioned effi,.

Art. 12. Every colonel, or other dfi
ccr commanding a regiment, troop, ot
company, and actually quartered with it,

Art. 14. Every officer who, dial Ibe con

Art. 15. Every officer who (hall know

thereof by two witnefles, before a general

thereby utteily difabkd to have or hold any
office or employment in the service of the
United States.
Art. i <l. Any commifiary of mnfiers
or other officer, who (hall be convidfed of
having taken money or other thing, by

regiment, troop cr company, or on the

ment in the service of the United States.
Art. 17. Any officer vho (hall prefureie
to mutter a person as a soldier, who is not a
soldier, fliall be deemed guilty of having
made a falfe rnutf cr, & fliall fuffer accordingly.
Art. 18. Every officer yvho shall know
ingly make a falfe return to the department
of war, or to any of his superior officers,
aathorifed to call for such retains, of the

thereunto belonging, (hall, on conviction
thereof before a court martial, be cafhiercd*
Art. 15. The commanding officer of
every regiment, troop, or independent com
pany , or garrik n of the United Stares, fliall,
in the beginning of every month, remit
through the pr®,<r efranrdf, to <he depart-’
merK cf v/ar, an exact return of the r«gi
nient, troop, independent company, or
garrison, under his command, fpccifying
the names of the officers then absent from
( their p-.ih, ami the regions for, and the
time of their absence. And any officer who
fliall be convicted of having, through neg
le£t er design, •mitt.ed fending such returns,
fliall be puniflied according to the nature of
his crime, by the judgment of a general
court martial; ,
