A Proclamation.
A XTHEREAS I have received information
* that a certain Negro fellow named
DICK* the property of Nathaniel Beall, of
the county of Richmond, did on Sunday the
X9 ?h of Oftober lab, Ihoot at one Robert
Erwin, and then pursued, overtook and
(truck him several times on the head with
a hatchet, with a manifeft intention ©f kill
ing him, and that the said fellow is now ly
ing out, and threatens the lives of ftvcral
other good citizens of this State. —And
whereas the security of the lives and per- (
sons ot our good citizens is among the firft
ohjeds »f government and civil loeiety :
In order therefore, to prevent as far as
pofiible the like atrocities in future, and
that the offender may be brought to answer
for the crime already committed, I have
thought fit to issue this my proclamation,
offering a reward of FIFTY DOLLARS,
to any petfon or persons, who will appre
hend the said negro fellow Dick, and him
fafely lodge in the Jail of Richmond county,
—And 1 do hereby charge and require all
officers civil and military, belonging to
this State, to be aiding and afiifting in ap
prehending and securing the said offender,
so that he may be brought to trial for the
crime alledgcd against him.
