FOB PUBLISHING BY SUBSCRIPTION,
THE LIFE OF
Maj. Gen. James Jackson
BY THOMAS U. P. CHARLTON.
A citizen of Savannah,
With considerable labor and difficulty I
have collected materials which will enable
me to complete, in a few weeks, the life of
major-general James Jackson.
The character of this late diftinguilhcd
citizen, was always held in high estima
tion by the republican interell of the U.
States ; and even his enemies (if all enmity
is not now buried in the grave) mud ac
knowledge* that he was a brave fuldier, an
incorruptible (latefman>and an honed man.
The memoirs 1 am preparing for publica
tion will be'thus divided—
id Period —Will detail the revolutiona.
ryfervices of general Jackson, and, col
laterally, the services of many patriotic
Georgians, from 1776, to the evacuation of
Savannah, in 1752.
ad Period-^ Will detail his political and
civil pursuits, from 178a to ISO 6. This
division of the memoirs will contain a hi(h>-
ry of jhe Yazoo Speculation in the
date of Georgia, from the commencement of
the fraud to its subversion, in r 79 5 ; sod*
will slfo embrace the proceedings of the houfc
of reprefentativcs and the fenaie of the flare
of Georgia, and of the house of representa
tives of the cengrefs of the U, States, in
the year 1791, on the celebrated centered
eleftion of general Anthony Wayne.
This work will be printed on an oftavo
page, and will probably contain 350 or 400
pages.
The price tofubferibers, (as the expenses
of publication are at present edimated) wi;l
be two dollar* fifty—one dollar of which
mud be paid a* the timeoffubferibing.
As soon as 1000 fubferihers fkall have
made this advance, the money and the man
ufeript will be delivered to the publifhcr,
THOMAS U. P. CHARLTON.
