that ac Turin, the colonel of u regiment,

AUGUSTA FEMALE ASYLtJM
Report.
The Directresses of the Augsta F.
male Asylum, report to the patrons oi
this institution a statement of their r
ceipts and disbursements for the last yea.
ending the 30lh of April; and of .the dis
posable funds now in their Treasury. —
While they express sentiments of lively
gratitude to all those Iricnds and bene
factors, who have for eleven years ena
bled them, by their liberal conuibutions
to extend the hand of protection to n ant
Helpless Orphans, they desire her to of
Fer testimonials of truly grateful hearts to
Mr. Thor.vus Cameling, for his liberal
donation of a most ..-it gible building Lot,
to this and a sistrr institution.—We know
'hat Christian benevolence shrinks from
aumau applause, and in the present in
stance, we are stire it would give more
pain than pleasure;—we therefore will
only observe, that ourselves and Orphans
feel bound to pray that Jacob’s God may
return four fold. ]
file expenditures for the past year 1
have been unavoidably great, in const- t
quer.ee of various internal regulations to <
promote domestic convenience—and we <
were under the necessity of sending to'
Philadelphia for a Matron,* qualifed to
lake proper care of our Children—This ]
expedient, though expensive in the first
instance, (as we had all travelling charg
es to pay) has resulted to our entire ]
satisfaction; and we feel fullv remuner
ated in the superior management of an
industrious, pious and intelligent Matron
W e see the children improving under j
her instructions, and several of them are .
now qualified to do plain sewing and
marking; and we hope they may meet ]
with employment to encourage habits of 1
early industry, and thereby diminish the
expense of their support,
In a former report, we expressed an
ardent desire to build an Orphan house
which would hot only relieve us of a hea
vy house rent, but establish the institution *
more permanently and afford it better ac (
commodations. Tho object we now hope
will soon be carried into effect, as con
tracts have been made for a brick building,
ahd preparations for ill ? commencement
of the work already begun. But we
must still look t 6 our benevolent patrons
for further aid to enable us to meet the ‘
full completion of our purpose. Our 1
funds must necessarily increase before ’
we can discharge the debt incurred by s
building; and we feel a <vinfideilt hope
that an appeal made in betudf of Female 1
Orphans to the benevolent inhabitants of
AuguS'a will never be made in vain. 1
