ILL take notice that the 101st sec
tion of the General Ordinance of the city
6f Augusta, v ill be enforced after the
Bmt of June—lt reads as follows“ All
Boats not in actual use, shall be removed
from opposite the city, during the months
ofJune, July, August, September and Oc
tober, annually. Boats found opposite the '
City, during the above named months of 1
flic year, containing water in the holds,
shall be seized by any officer of Council
ahd conveyed from the city. Any person •
violating this section shall be fined, at the
discretion of Council, in a sum not ex
ieedingone hundred dollars per day; and i
shall, moreover, be liable for all expences
incurred in removing such boat or boats.”

creditors as well those at whose suit the

OTOLEN from Capt. Bee’s Reck in the
tj city of Augusta, on Monday Evening,
i he 20th inst a large Bay MARE, about 8
or 9 years old, with fold. She had a dou
ble rained bridle on, and is about fifteen
hands and a half high, a very long tale,
tong head and neck, and a small lump on
one of her fore ancles, and had a sore on
the middle of her back, but now well. —
Forty dollars will be paid for the thief,
and thirty for the Mare, to be delivered to
the subscriber, thirteen miles above Au,
gusta, or with Edward Bird, ufAugusta
at the City Hotel.

the Arts and Sciences—the conservator

of Liberty and Virtue. However corrupt
a Press may be; however ably and skil
tully conducted, it cannot long retain an
undue influence upon the minds of the
People;—the glare of public observation
through which it moves, like the unsulli
ed Mirror of Confucius, immediately re
flects its deforminily; and er poses its ve
nality. Someone ha« aptly observed, that
OPisios is lae Queen of the Uarid! She
is emphatically so in a government like
ours. The aristocratical maxim, “ the
people are their own v/ortl enemies,” under
whatever semblance it may appear, will
still retain an impress of its original fea
tures; and the ken of an enlightened
community will soon penetrate the gossa
mu-mantle, and drag the monster to light.

larly devoted to an impartial examination
of the politics of the State of Georgia*-
The policy of its present administration is
one which fully accords with our feelings
and principles—hud so long as it adheres
to that honest and independent course
which has invariably marked its progress,
so long will the Editors be devoted to it*
support. All other subjects of State or
National concern, will receive that por
tion of attention which they merit; ami
every exertion will be used to render the
paper a medium of useful intelligence.
Such are the sentiments of the Editory
—and thus feeling ami thinking will they
launch (heir little barque upon the politi
cal ocean. With Truth their chart, and
Independence their compass, they hope in
attempting to avoid Scylla they will not
foundeg on Charybdis; but ride in triumph
on the Sea of Principle into the Port of
Public Safety.
