TO PLANTERS.
I AM aware that in presenting
My Planter
To the public, I Viave to contend with the prejudices
created by the failure of other inventions for the like
purpose. I flatter myself, however, that my PLAN
TER will perform-the work proposed, in a*satisfac
tory manner. I atn strengthened in that conviction,
by the opinion of nearlyalllhe PRACTICAL FAR
MERS of Thomas and adjoining counties who have
examined it; and the judgment of the members of
the Patent Office, who pronounce it to be by far the
best PLANTER that has ever been presented to
them.
It is intended to plant CORN and COTTON,
and to sow grain of all kinds. For sowing Wheat
broad-cast and harrowing in at one and the same
time, it cannot be equalled. It can be used for put
ting out Guano, cither by strewing or by putting any
desired quantity at any given distance. The dis
tance proposed to drop the seed is graduated by the
number of cogs and the quantity of the size.
A glance at the PLANTER shows the amount of
labor saved by its use, and the nature and accuracy
j of the some. A man and horse lays out the row,
drops the seed and covers it, in the same time aud
with the same labor that it takes, in (ho usual way,
to lay out the row. The aid given by the wheel
renders it equally as easy to the horse as a single
plough.
It being impossible for A N Y ONE MAN to
bring it to the notice of every farmer, or to supply
the demaud when exhibited, I propose to sell the
right to any State or County, or number of counties,
that any oue may desire, and at rates that the pur
chaser will make money. I trust that no one will
condemn it without an examination, because it is
the invention of a Southern man. If, however, after
examination, they reject it, I have nothing to say.
