PROPOSALS roR publishing BY SUBSCRIPTION, Medical Pauls and inquiries Outlie nature, causes, prevention and cure ol Fever ; more expressly in relation to the Endemic Fevers of summer and autumn in the southern states. To gether with accounts of the Bil lions Remitting Fever of Ala bama, as it appeared in trie summers and autumns of 1821 and 1822. By JABF.Z W. lIEUBTIS, M D. Author of Physical Observations and Medical Tracts and Researches on the Topography and Diseases ot Louisiana. THE Author of the work abovemen - Boned considers that little need be said in order to set forth its interest and utility to the community at laiT<;e. It is a subject in which all arc inte rested, as well the planter as the phy sician. Fever is the principal source of mortality in the Southern States, and the annual Visitor of our burns, settlements and sea-pin tv;an acquain tance, therefore with its causes, its na ture, prevention and cure, is among the first lessons of self-preservation. A residence of several years in the southern states, together with conside rable experience in the diseases of the climate, and the aid of study and re flection have, the writer trusts, ena bled him to treat the subject in such a manner as to be both useful and inte resting. It is nearly ten years since he turned his attention to the labor and execution ol the present work ; during which time, the facts and observations that have (alien within his reach, have been carefully improved. The result be is now about to give to the public. His aim has been to render the work, ol essential practical utility, and he lias therefore avoided much of the tech nicality of inociical language, in order to adapt it to the understanding of all.
