Mr. Adams offer'd ta present the petition of one hun
dred cut fifty v omen, whom he stated to he the wives
nnd daughter* of his imiuedittte constituent!?, proving for
?h?abolition of rdavegy in ti> * District of Coiitrabin.
Os the Georgia delegation—Mo r. Glascock nnd
Dawson, voted against receiving ihe petition,
Messrs. Cleavoland, Grantlurid, Ha aos und Owens,
voted in favor of redwing (hr petition.
At the first blush, it might *•••* and ••r.r:*d by nr*, * *pri
f inr, that these four members of ton ; • pro; -i? r to

that there hut one: op? ion prevailing throughout (
the (State upon this subject. ‘A o infer sofa th.s reason, •
that there will, not ho a press in the State, that will have ]
the temerity to justify these men in the vote thf-y h ive
given. Pinckney was defeated in Carolina by his own
party for the vote he gave the last session upon this very
question. Glascock wa supported by both parties for
the derided ground lie took in opposition to it. Glascock
maintained his consistency, and even Pinckney the au
thor of the report recommending the reception of these
petition?, had so much regard for the feelings, the inter
est and the opinions of his constitn-nt?, as expressed
through the ballot boxes, that even lie voted against the
measure, flow can Cleaveland, GrnntlanJ, Haynes,
and Owens render an account of their stewardship to
their constituauts at home 7 llow will they ho able to
justifv their recreancy to Georgia? \\ nose resolution
was it that they sustained, and with whom were they
kit ins a roivtion part?— John Quincy Adi r ns, the
avow cd and boasted champion of Abolitionism present
ed the petition,—the petitioners say that “they will pe
tition Congress year after year, session after session, un
til the prayer of the petition was heard and answered,
These are the people who always lmve felt nnd openly
expressed their hostility to the institution of slavery as it
exists at the South, their petition is so drafted ns to ex
press their feelings,- it is not couched in mincing or equiv
ocal terms, —it openly declares tbe hostility of the peti
tioners to the institutions of slavery and to those who
sanction it with a positive assurance that these petitions
will be continued until their object is accomplished. The
four representative* from Georgia, Messrs. Clneland. ]
Grantlaml, Magnet, and Owen*, sustained these peti- 1
tiontsrs. Let this he renumbered. We venture to say that j
there are none of their constituents that will open-j
1 v eii -tain them. We speak of these men aside from any
party prejudice, we would think the same of them, and j
po express ourselves, were they the leaiiers and the only
loaders of ottr own party. They have done wrong, they
have misrepresented the feelings of their State, and we
challenge a denial from any source. They cannot justi
fy themselves for the vote they have given, and which
will in all aftertimes be brought up in judgment against
them. They have betrayed the State, and they have
done it knowingly.
The No'orion* Col. Hilltop-— lt is worthy of notice
and should be cited by our contemporaries, as an illustra
tion of the equal administration of justice, that a pitiful,
brawling vagabond, an outlaw from justice, vet still an
MDofth” Governor of the State, exercising the func
tions of a Cl wk of the Superior Court, has the free and
independent citizens of Murray County under such
complete subjection, tint (because bo so wills it) there
has oot been a jury summoned or impanned to try cases
k ~m -a the County of Murray ha; been aeounty, although
it has been organised for three years. What think to
people of Georgia of such a stale of thing.- 1 llutniUt
ting as the admission may lie, let it he known abroad to
the world, that the GOVERNOR’S AID, exercising the
fa net ions of n Clerk of the Superior Court, will uot suf
ferthe citizens of a portion of Georgia, toenjov the right
they inherited from their ancestors, the indisputable right
of trial ly Jury.
Ect it also he remembered, that the bullying tytnutl who

From the flattering encouragement we have received
during the present year, we have unde every exertion, ■
and have succeeded in engaging the services of first rate j
teachers in the several departni mis of ihe institution.—— !
‘fhev bring with them testimonials of religious character ;
and literary attninments from many of the most influen
tial gentlemen in the Lnitcd States.
We have made arrangements to have n Steward’s Hau
attached to the Institution, at the head of which win b
Mrs. D'F.&TE , an elderly lady, whose domestic habits
end experience in the government of voting ladies, are
very highlv extolled. We have been led to this step,
from the inconvenience w hich ro\in\: ladies experience in
going to and coming from their boarding bouses daring
inclement weather; from the time they lose, owing to
the domestic arrangements ot other hone' 1 : 4 , not corres
ponding with our own ; for the £ake o! haying the
young at all times, under the supervision of the
t?nrh'rs, a c many *1 them are disposed to neglect their
studies, nnd becomecsrelecs of tiieir manners and lan
guage when not subj''. ted to such a check; and. fmally,
the teachers cannot feel tncmselves responsible for
?Hose who hoard elsewhere, as for those who boawl with
them. We do not wish to he understood as dictating to
our patrons, but respectfully submit the above hints to
their sober consideration.
A contract has been made for having completer, early

Young ladies who may desire to speak the French la
