SENTIMENTS OF KENTUCKY.
Mr. M’Kee of Ky. presented to the
House the following resolutions of the Lc

I'lie Legislature of Kentucky, consi
dering the present us anputcrcstinn &, im
portant crisis, in the arduous contest iu
which we have embarked, for the preser

rights of national sovereignty and inde

periont and inveterate enemy oftimt sove-
cigntv and independence, which every
itizen of onr free and hajipy government
hould at all times be piepurcd to lay
down his life, if necessary, to maintain;
feel strongly impressed with the propriety,
on this occasion, of representing, as they
firmly believe they do. the utmost imani
uioiis sentimentsjofthe citizens of the state
which they represent; which are embodi
ed and expressed in the following resolu
tions :
4. RESOLVED,hy the Senate <§* House
of Representatives of the commonwealth
of R’ent xlcy. ’i hat we firmly adhere to
the General Government, and retain our
attachment to the Federal constitution,
w tlirhfa iuds ns together and with thefate
of which we combine that of our own ex

tr.'tion of onr national government, now
vested in the hands of an executive, com
petont to steer the vessel of state between
the vortex of domestic faction, and the
menacing rocks of foreign w ar.
3. Resolved, That the overtures of peace
made to tho British government by ours,
since the declaration of war,and the spee
dy acceptance of the prolfered mediation
of Russia, are irrefragibic evidences [if
any were wanting] of a sincere desire for
a restoration oft ha blessings of peace, on
the part of our own, and of persevering de

government to continue what their iiyus-
liee aud usurpation first began, and fur
nish th our own government the most ir-
refragible arguments for a vigorous, ener
getic, and zealous prosecution of the
war.
4. Resolved, That llie restriction on
our commerce lately enforced by an em
bargo, is wise, expedient and politic, and
repay* privation and self denial, by pre
venting supplies of the enemy from oar

3. Resolved, That when a member of
Congress shall not possess the virtue to
resist party influence ; when he shall
not have the iudependence to vote the dic
