We present as a grievance the insufficiency of
the common jail of tins county, and recommend to
the next legislature to levy an extra tax lor this
conntv, for the purpose of building a sufficient one.
Whilst we express our approbation and satisfac
tion at the atate- nf repair itl which many of the
Itighvvu^ in diffluent districts in our county are,
we are constrained to present as a grievance, the
almost impissatilc state of the roads it. many otityr
districts, and tan hut attribute it to the shametul
neglect of the commissioners of the same. We-
earnestly recommend those membeis vvlio ms) be
elected to represent us in the next legislature to
use their best endeavors to obtain the passage ot an
act to have the roads repaired by a tax levied on
the public for that purpose.
We cannot relrain fiotu expressing our surprize
at the various evasions of our nnli ia laws, by the
officers o, the same, and while a slave holding com
munity, we conceive that the patrol laws sliuuid be
particularly attended to.
We vie *■ as a grievance the manifest inattention
of the commissioners of the town ot Eutuntoti, in
having tin; streets of si,id town properly repaired,
suit would direct their particular atten ion to the
removal ot various nuisances within the incorpo
rat'd limts.
