4 T the commencement of the present year,

rents and guardians, the Institution over w Inch
they hav e, (lie honor to preside, as one entitled
to ilieir pai ticular attention and liberal patron
age.
Under the direct superlntendance of Mr
Smith, the Institution has been in prosperous
operation for nearly one quarter, and we coil
ceive itan act of i. justice to the public, .ant
withholding from Mr S. as well as a departure
from our duty ns public agents, not to pursue
this course of public advertisement, and again
to renew our offer, to the public ol the very
superior services of Mr. S as an instructor of
youth—Hi* opportunities, aided by his high
grade of talents to teach render him very
perior to many whose celelniiy as leathers
have .o.quiicd for them a high character be
foie the public
M e. believe Mr. S well qualified to instruct
in every branch of education taught even in
Uollegi »te courses, and feel autlu rised to say
to tli puhlicthut we stand pledged for his per
form.nice to the satisfaction ot the most scru
pulous, in n degree rarely excelled and nevei
before exp i ieneed in our Instinnion.
In thispledge we would not be understood
to detract from, or offer injustice lo the indivi
dual merits of many teachers we have h id the
'ji od fortune to employ, for many of them we
feel the highest esteem and veneration. Mr
b. has at this lime 37 pupils in his charge,
among whom area number of young gentle
men, far advanced in the study ol the sciences
making with ihe greatest ease rapid advance
meat in branches (he most abstruse—lolhe
pupils under Mr. S’s. charge, application to
Book!) is made rather an interesting amuse
nioiii. than an irksome employment liuie«U
his school bears a stronger resemblance to a
happy family than otherwise ; correciio is ol
rare occurrence if ever at all uiHicted ; he ve
ry happily supercedes it by repeat'd approba
tion and rewards of merit, thereby keeping
alive one continued excitement and l.iuUabh'
emulation. No day is lost to the student—to
a large and respectable Sunday School, win re
no exertion i - spaied to advam e its solid be

The local and i dative siluali o of our vil
