Bhinnerhasselt's Island—Tlm beautiful islayd of
the Obit? which acquired unfortunate celebrity hy the
connexion of its owner with the fortunes of Colonel
Bun has been render'd classic ground by one of tho
flashes of pootry which hiiglitened the dull muss of
argument heaped up in the trial of the military adven
turer The spot which was once the seat of ele

and desolate. Tho embellishments ofart have diaup*
penred, th** palneo crumbled, and the ornaments of
taste wthered. Driftwood encumbers the grounus
and ruins are strewed over the spot which xvas onco
so image of an earthly paradise. Tho former oxvncr,
unfortunately seduced by ambition to participate In
the wild schemes formed hy his bold visionary com

of character The island xvas nhundoned, aftd is nour
a memento of the lolly of its possessor, exhibiting
that desolation which the decay of nature briof

LILLIPUTIANS.-—I last week saw wbat
I conceivo to bn one of the greatosl curiosities 1 ever
witnessed, one that is calculated t*> awake in the anti
quartan nnd philosopher, tho deepest interest—ft xxrm
.t human skeleton, or the vestiges of one ofao adult
that could not positively have been ruoro than txventy
inches in he ght. It xvas brought from White county
in Tennessee, near Sparta ; and the man who brought
it, assured me there are thousands nnd thousands of
them to be found iu the neighborhood, the longest of
which do not excoed twenty txvo inches, some as
small as six inches. The bones are found inn cavi
ty formed by blab stones regularly formed as a
parallelogram-a kind ofsiono coffin. These coffin*
vary in size to suit the bodies they contained, say in
length from six to twenty two inches In tho coffin
of every adult is found a stone jar, shaped like a com
mon iron pot for conking which will contain about a
quart This pot ta epjbraccd by the left arm, and in
somo of the jars there arc found pearls, beads and
shells, for ornament*. The many ages that must
have elapsed since the race of pigmies existed, liavo
cuuBed most of the bones to mouldef ®' v »y» nnd the
pearls and jars which I saw are also considerably mu
tilated. The repositories of the bones aro sometime.*
found near the surface of tho ground, but generally
considerably below it, and in soma instances the lar
gest forest trees nro found growing over them. Tho
subject has excited much feeling amongst tho curioqp
in these matters
