ADVICE TO DUELLISTS.
FROM TIIE NEW YORK STANDARD.
It is the prido and boast ot modern science that
its character is essentially practical, that its im
provements apply to the uses of ordinary life, and
that human happiness, comfort, and convenience)
arc promoted by its agency. The miner’s safety
lamp, the rail road locomotive, and other such mat
ters, arc pointed to in evidence; cooking is a sci
ence, or rather n department of a science, for its
proper name is culinary chemistry. Every week
brings some discovery, and there i:-. nothing that
comes home to men’s business or bosoms which is
left without the field of improvement. Even the
consequences of duelling may agreeably bo modi
