Crawford : Sir:—The Committee who were appoin ted by your Excellency under a joint res olution of the Legislature ot the State of Georgia, approved on tlm 25 It day ol De cember, 1843, “to investigate thcnfthiis and condition of the Centrnl Bank, <ind re port the same,” met in pursuance ol their appointment, and entered upon the duties assigned to them on Monday, the 12 It ot May last, anil continued limit labors until the 11 tit June, when they found il impossible to proceed, or in u satisfactory manner to con clude tlicit report, which had been complet ed, with the exception of the notes in the hands of Attorneys for colh ction ; mid even this item, under the host informal ion then before them, they had carefully examined, nail included in what they termed a B.w.anok Siiect, setting forth to the be»t < f their judgment the then condition ot the Centrnl Rank, taking for their hum* the state of the Batik of tlm 2d June, 1845, which balance sheet showed a deficit of $34(»,I72 83, after the entire capital received twin the State, mid the surplus revenue received ft out the Hailed States, amounting to $1,051,422 09, had been merged mid swallowed up in tin- all',ill's of the Centrnl Rank. Tiro ol the Commit tee were of tlio opinion, that the es timate as set forth in the balance sli-et was not sotlicieot to cover the loss. It was there fore agreed upon to leave that document open for future investigation, when the Cent mittee adjourned to meet on Thursday, the Dili dry of October, for the purpose of affording time to the Vttoroeys to mnkcthcir report as to the value und condition of the assets placed in their hands; thus to enable tile Committee to decide more advisedly us to the eventual condition and solvency of this important item in the nllairs of the Ceil tin I Rank. One of the Committee who be lieved iliut tlm deficit stated in ifie Imlunn sheet would not cover the loss, was John F Lloyd, Esq. of Floyd county, our lute valued friend, und efficient associate, whom, during our adjournment, it has pleased Almighty God to “cull hence;’ and the undersigned, deprived of his important aid, have now to proceed to complete llm work which he had, with so much zeal mid care, united with them in investigating. The undersigned met on Thursday morn ing, the iltli inst., in conformity with their iiinlersiundiiig when they adjourned, and promptly proceeded to the discharge ol the remaining duty required of them. Bonds issued by the State, so as to enable llm said Rniik to relieve its circulation, und other pressing de mands.
