POETRY
[For the Savannah National Republican.]
the reals of fancy.
BT NIKA ADU1SIKE.
SAVANNAH NATIONAL REPUBLICAN. WEDNESDAY MORNING. NOVEMB£R'Ul»65.
HO TELS.
Oh I there is a world ol beauty where never en
ters care, «
Where radiant forms ot loveliness are fluting
gay and fair,
Where the pictures of the mind and the blossoms
of the soul.
In bright and fadeless colors each moment do.It
unroll.
There the treasures aud the dreaming* of the
heart are bounding free,
There the spirit all untrammelled bursts forth m
songs ot g!<*®»
There the beauties of our childhood are ev
blooming bright, , .
There love's fond and fairest tieasures o erwhelm
us with delight.
There no grief or sorrow comes to awaken wild
despair,
There parting isunkoovrn and the worlds sad
wear and tear.
There music sweetly swelling fills the air with
soft delight,
There the witcbii'g forms of beauty entrance us
by their sight.
There the hero’s laureled chaplet is woveu iresh
and green,
There the poet’s visions bright add new beauties
to the scene,
There the eagle soul ot genius expands in wildest
flight,
And the painter wins bis colors and his land
scapes fair and bright.
Oh ! that world of beauty is gemmed with stars
around.
There the sunset ue'er is seen, nor iwilights
shadows found,
For the brilliant tun of glory shines brightly
over head.
Encircled by the diamond thoughts that purest
spiri’s shed.
Amid the gol ten sands of that fairy world above
Lie the emerald gifts ol nature and the ruby
crown of love,
While the pearly gems of thought culled from
the ma den's mind.
With the garnet dreams of man are richly there
entwined.
No worid ngkno vs its tieasures or views its
work- of art,
’Tis conceal’d within the soul and shrined within
the heart,
Aud its visions aud its power to chase awsy
desp air,
To cull the brightest flowers and entwine them
’round the bier.
To ease the pangs of abs“nc*, to cure the broken
b 'art,
From every shade of sorrow new blessings to im
part—
Oh ! a witching spell bas Fancy—a glorious
realm we find,
To brig’nieu worldly c .res and relieve the tortur
ed mind.
The jewels garner'd there ai e not like those in
earth's dark mine,
They are brilliant dreauiiugs of the soul from out
its holiest shrine -
The ebxir of the miud flowe’h ever fresh and
pure
From the rivulets lhat murmur upon her balmy
shore.
Fora magic wand she wields iu her world of light
and love,
Tn punfv nnr spirits and prepare them for above,
For she winnetb all her raptures from the mighty
King of all,
Who sanctifies each thought aud our hearts from
dtuss recall.

WAITING FOR FATHER.
HY GEOROE COOPER.
ill
The table was set, ard the tea-kettle sang.
By tie* fireside pleasant and snug;
The voice of .he cricket in merriment rang,
Ana puss lay asleep on the rug.
The ra ; n on ih» window-pane tapped with a *
As the mother looked out in the gloom;
And three little children were sitting so still,
la the shade of the dim-lighted room ;
They wai’ed for fatler. So. night after night
They had wa’ched as the year had gone by,
Far bis face at the door, tilt the tear-drops were
’ bright
In the deeps of each play-weary eye.
And by the bedside, ere they lay dowu to sleep
Little shite hands were folded in prayer '
And soft, pleading lips asked the Saviour to keep
Tneir loved one in Heavenly care I
For the red field of bottle went prowling abroad
(Oh, the hearts that were shrouded in woe.')—
And with heroes ot Freedom, their brave father’s
sword
Met the blades of the traitorous foe.
Ah ! slow were the steps of the hours that passed
Though, wbeo evening grew chilly aud long,
And the arms of the wind round the old house
were cast,
Still the cricket breathed hooe in her song.
The mother turned sadly away from the pane.
And she ktssed her sweet darlings aud wept;
And whispered that father would soon come
rpatn,
White close to her bosom they crept.
Oh, who ie it comes io the darkness and rain
To the farm on the brow of the hill V
And who is it peeps through the glimmering
pane.
At the group that is joyless and still ?
A hand on the latch, and a voice loud and clear,
Then a form bv the door stands in view !
o mother and children dash by every tear,—
Clasp youi soldier so noble and true !

Of Liberty born of the patriot’s dream
Of the storm cradled nation that tell ’
Too poor to possess the precious ores

We issued to-day our promises to pay, ’
And hope to redeem on the morrow.
The days rolled on, and weeks became years,
But our coffers were empty still;
Coin was so rare that the Treasury quaked
If a dollar shou'd drop in the till.
But the iaitb that was in us was strong indeed,
And our poverty we’l discerned;
Aud.these iittle checks represented the pay
That our suffering volunteers earned.
We knew it had hardly a value iu gold,

It gazed io ou- eyes with a promise to pay,
