Ay Snu»ct,
Mark how the golden sunbeams quiver—
So they shone in the days gone by,
When arm in arm by the quiet river
We wandered at sunset, -she and I.
Oh ! wbat a beauty was in the island,
Oh ! whrt a glow on the distant sea.
What a halo of glory o’er vale and highland.
That autumn evening she walked with me.
The sky was bright, for it shone above her;
The earth was fair that she walked upon ,
And life was sweet—cooJd I augbt botove er,
As arm clasped arm -as we sauntered, on .

Wisdom in woman, and with learning cram
her.
There isn't one in ten but thinks far more
Of bis own grub thau of his spouse’s gram
mar. .
i know it is the greatest shame in life
But who among them, (except peiliaps niy-
self,)
Betuming hungry home, but asks his wife
What beef—not books—she has upon the
shelf
Though Greek and Latin be the lady's boast,
They ’re little valued by her loving mate ;
The kind of tongues that husbands relish most
Is modern, boiled, and served upon a plate.
Or, if as fond ambition may command,
Some home made verse the happy matron
shows him,
"What mortal spouse but from her dainty hand
Would sooner see a pudding than a poem ?
Yourg lady, derp in love with Tom or Harry,
’Tis sad to tell yon such a tale as this ;
But terc’s the moral of it : Idon’t ye marry ;
Or, marrying, take your lover as be is—
A very rr.on—with something of the brute,
(Unless he prove a sentimental noddy,)
With pa-sinns strong, and appetite to boot—
A thirsty soul within a hungry body !
A very man—not one of nature’s clouds—

The mosquito's Song,
In a summer night I take my flight,
To where the maids repose,
And while they slumber sweet and sound,
I bite them on the nose;
The warm red blood tl At tints their cheeks
To me is precious dear,
Tor ’tis my delight to buzz and bite
In this season of the year.
When I get my fill I wipe my bill,
And sound my tiny horn,
And off I fly to the mountain high
Ere breaks the golden morn ;
But at once I sally forth agrin
To tickle the sleeper’s ear,
For ’tis my delight to buzz and bite
In this season of the year.
On the chamber wall I love to crawl
ll'ili my landlord goes to bed,
’Then my bugle I blow and down I go
To light upon his head.
Oh, I love to see the fellow slap,
And I love to hear him swear,
For ’tis my delight to buzz and bite
In this season of the year.
