The Savanuah River.
The numerous obstructions in the Savannah
river greatly impede and endanger its naviga
tion. and all steamers and cotton laden vessels
are liable to be wrecked on the various snags
and sutiken steamers between this city and
Augn-ta. The steamer Savannah is sunk some
jjf t v miles above this city, in the immediate
channel, and several cotton laden flats that ar
rived yesterday struek on her and came near
king wrecked, while snags and other impedi
ments. cause nearly one-half of all the cotton
H its that leave Augusta to be more or less dam
aged Indore their arrival at this city. Nearly
one-half of all the cotton that arrives by the
river on flats from above is in a damaged con
dition, and nearly worthless ns a marketable
art ' le. It is has to be repacked, rebaled and
plated in good order, and this labor nearly
consumes its original value. We learn that
some fifteen flats, during the week, have been
sunk between this city and Augnsta, and that
the river is full of floating cotton.

A Correction,
We slated yesterday in our notice of the arri
val of lie steamship Leo, that Mr. Octavug Co
hen was the Agent of the “Pioneer Line.” This
would lead to the belief that Messrs Hunter &
(mmmell were no longer tbe agents of this pop
ular line. This is a mistake, as we have since
been informed. Mr. Cohen is the Agent of the
steamers Zodiac and Leo, which boats have been
withdrawn from the line, while Messrs. Hunter
A Gammed still continue their agency of tbe
"Pioneer Erne.”
Both of these houses have a high reputation
lor business qualifications, sagacity and experi
ence. and are well-known for thsir courtesy and
gentlemanly bearing to all having business trans
actions with them.
The Savannah and Charleston Cotton.
A late Northern papetsay*: “The sum ob
tained by the sale of Savannah and Sea Island
cotton, sold in New York on Tuesday by Mr.
Draper, the cotton agent, was more than $1,-
100,000 in gold. The whole amount realized
during the past year on account of cotton
sales is between six and 6even million dol
lars. Nearly $6,000,000 of the sum were the
proceeds of the cotton captured in Savan
nah and Charleston, 42,600 bales, of which
38,500 came from Savannah. The advance
which has token place in tbe price of cotton has
added tolerably to the sum, for which at least 10,-
000 baks of it were sold. By postponiog the
sale the Government gained about twenty cents a
pound. The whole of tbe Savannah, Charleston
and Mobile cotton taken by tbe Government bas
been disposed of, and tbe sales made hereafter
will be of cotton collected by the special agents
of the Treasury in tbe various States of tbe
South.

We invite the attention of our merchants
and others interested, to the advertisement of
the sloop Fleet, which has been purchased ex
pressly for the coasting trade, and will have
quick despatch for the above port. Th* Fleet

fectly water-tight, and may be relied on as a
permnuent institution, forming quite a valuable
addition to our coast commerce.
M. J. Doyle is the agent of the Fleet, and to

ITS PUBLICATION SOON TO BE REVIVED.
T HE undersigned takes pleasure iu announcing to
its old patrons and tho public that arrangements
have been nearly perfected by which the “National
American” will be revived, in a neiv and attractive
form, anil under very favorable auspices, in the City of
Atlanta, Georgia, early in the enduing year.|
The piper was established in 1S50, and enjoyed a
patronage and popularity greatly superior to anv of its
city cotemporaries up to January, 1861, when it was
discontinued in consequence of the secession of Georg'a
from the Union. It will be remembered as a bold and
consistent National Journal—zealously opposing Se
cession and Disunion, and as warmly advocating the
development of the vast and varied Rcsourpes of the
Sonth—particularly of Georgia; the adqption of a
libera) system of Public Schools and General
Education; an enlightened system of Agriculture : the
promotion and elevation of the Mechanic Arts; the
establishment of Maonfactories, and the encourage
ment of every industrial pursuit calculated to improve
the Minds and Mortis of our people and render them
prosperous and happy in the “Union of our Fathers.’’^
It will be the aim of Us projector ani} his (geseut As
sociates to sustain, in all its leading features, tbe well-
earned good name independence and consistency of
the paper, and to make it,' if possible, even more ac
ceptable and popular titan in its hitherto palmiest days.
The paper will in no wise belie its past proud record.
It will continue Union, yet thoroughly Southern in its
tone and character—proscribing iio man who did his
duty in the troublous past, and fearlessly, yet courte
ously, opposing every measure, par y or clique whose
tenets may be deemed inimical to the peace and proe-
petity.of the country at (arge. ’
The interest of the Subscriber as well as those ol
the Advertiser will be protected, and every effort made
to make the S.mcricam a Live and Reliable News,
Political, Commercial and Family Journal.
The National American will be published Daily
and Weekly in the City' of Atlanta, and lurnisbed to
Subscribers, if by mail, at *10, or by carrier in the city,
at *12 per annum, for the Daily, and $4 for the Weekly
