More Robberies. Ac,
The city appears to be still infested with a
Ej band of thieves, pick-pockets and burglars, as
■ is evidenced by the numerous reports which
■ have come to us.
burly yesterday morning, the residence of
t 8 lady on Liberty street was entered, while the
K inmates were engaged in the lower part of the
I b use, and robbed it of several articles, of lit-
II tie ulue to the thief or thieves, but of consid-
B cable value to the owner from associations.
B Tiiis i s the second time these premises have
K teen entered and articles carried off.
li e also learn that several of our citizens
K kave been rudely attacked on our street* at
night, and in some instances with considerable
B success.
A largo amount of forged “greenbacks” are
I atin our community, and it would be well
B for our citizens to be on their guard.

LETTER FROM MR. BARNUM.
NEW YORK, July 14, 1S65.
Messrs. Herring Co. :
Gentlemen—Though the destruction of the Ameri
can Museum has proved a serious loss to myself and
the public, I am happy to verify the old adage, that,
“It’s an ill wind that blows nobody good," and conse
quently, congratulate you that your well-known safes
have again demonstrated their snperior fire-proof
qualities in an ordeal of unusual severity.
The safe you made for me some time ago was in the
office of the Museum, on the second floor, back part of
the building, and in the hottest of the fire.
After twenty-tour hours of trial it was found among
the debris, and on opening it this day has yielded up
its contents in very good order-books, papers, poli
cies of insurance, bank bills, all in conditiou/or imme
diate use, and a noble commentary on the trustworthi
ness of Herring's Fire-Proof Safes.
Truly yours,
