About lour weeks agon gentleman called upon
T). Thayer, and stated that-his father-in-law
md neighbor, Mr. Beniamin Fhinoey, had died
the day before, under very suspicious circum-

gentleman’s object in calling, was to hare the
matter of Mr. Phinney’s death thoroughly -in
vestigated. The deceased resided neat, the old

ml. and was a wealthy farmer and store keeper,
aged about seventy years. Dr. Thayer, immedi-
.itely went to the residence, made a post mortem
lamination of tbe body, sad returned with the
litomach, which was placed iu Dr. Cassel’s hands
lo be analysed. The result of this analysis

I This startling revelation justified' the sngpi-
pjns of foul play; and thereupon Messrs. El-
floor, in order to rescue them from their im
pending fate, and nobly did they strive, amidst
