A limn wiw nrwttcil yesterday morning and
carried before the Mayor, charged with peddling
poUtoflSnPwi license. Wo learn lio was from
Louisville, and hail brought to this city a car
load of Irish potatoes In barrels. Ho was appre
hended while In tho act of disposing of them In
smalt lota to our merchants. His case was dis
posed of by being required to make a sworn
c)n<f p»»nt of his operations to tho Clerk of Conn

Wo aro Informed that ills Honor tho Mayor
will hold his courts dally henceforth, and will

We must say that wc flatter ourselves at being
^pretty well versed In the English vocabulary, but
such a wont as the above Is beyond our compre
hension. We hove consulted every rcsi»ectablo
lexicographer, but foiled in finding its true mean
ing. The word Is applied to that conjuror, Searl,
who, if his foots are as Incomprehensible as his
titles, he certainly deserves the flattering notices
which appear from day to day in our exchanges.
The Macon Daily Telegraph thus discourectli on
the Wliard: "Searl, tho Ventriloquist and Pres
tidigitator, astonished and highly entertained u
largo audience last night with his marvelous
slight-of-hand tricks, Ventriloquism, and tho In
comprehensible gill of Bccond sght es exhibited
by Miss Ada. Many of his performances are
truly wonderful and "past finding out. His
trick with the Chinese ropes Is truly astonishing;
his umbrella feat, amazing; his mystic rings, as
tounding; and his venlriloqulal powers, remark-
i,t,l,.. Hu is, withal, a Wished gentleman, nnd
conducts his exhibition with the most perfect de
corum, inviting the closest scrutiny into all his
performances. We cannot but recommend our
readers to attend Ids two remaining exhibitions
-to-night, and tills afternoon at three o'clock—
when he will perform for the benefit of tho poor
of Macon."

The store of M. W. & J. II. Johnson, on Ala

ry steps w ere taken on Friday night lust townrds
making a “draw" upon the choice commissary
stores ot the Messrs. Johnson. It was discovered
that one of the back windows had been displac
ed, and as it wns expected tlmt Saturday night
would develop something, a policeman wns
place on the alert. Saturday night brought sus
picions movements on the part of sundry per
sons, but they doubtless “smelt a mice," a refrain
ed from further operations.
