Labor Skizbiik of Confkivkuatk Goods at
New Orleans.—'The Collector at New Orleans
tins recently made an important seizure of goods
on board tlie steamer Doubloon, which arrived
at Hint place from Shreveport, nnd the goods are
now held in tlie treasury warehouse in Hie Inr-
mcr city. Tlie cargo consisted of one hundred
nnd titty bales of Moxicnn blnnkets, grny Con
federate cloth, clothing, and a quantity ol cotfon
goods, tbo whole worth from eighty to ono hun
dred thousand dollars, Tito following nrc the
circumstances nttending the capture:
About tlie lime* of the surrender of Kirby
Smith’s forces, a man tmmed Galvan smuggled
tlie goods nchiss the Rio Grande into Texas, via
Eagle Pass, for tlie use of the Confederate Gov
ernment. Tlie property was seized by Hie Uni
ted States military authorities, but by some means
or other they were afterwards released and turn
ed over to Galvan’s agent, who transported them
in wagons through‘several counties In Texas,
unsuccessfully ottering them fur stile us be wont,
until lie arrived at Shreveport. At tlie labor
place a party, whose name is not given, obtained
possession of the facts in the case, nnd nt once
dneed himself lit communication with Collector
cllogg, who placed the matter In the bands of
Acting Survoyor Cassard, who, alter much pa

iKiard the steamer above mentioned, ns sho Was
about to discharge her cargo at New Orlonns.
A pnwerlnl influence is being brought to bear
upon tlie Executive for n remission of the sen
tence recently pronounced agninstO. B. Luinnr,
of Georgia, formerly President nfthebnnk of the
Republic, New York, lor certain alleged attempts
to defraud the Government. The conviction, it
will be remembered, wns before n military court,
and tlie Irlcnds of Lamar contend that it was
not a proper one to adjudicate bis cose—ho being
private clUzen, and amenable only to the civil
courts. Tlie Supremo Court has this very ques
tion before it now, and the President may await
its decision os applicable to that of Lamar.
