Jfr. Editor—'The enclosed sii licle Im* few preten
sions to merit; but ut this senson of the year, when
so many of our citizens ore annually leas ing us, on
excursions of business nr pleasure to the north, if yon
think its publication rot inopportune, you would ob
lige a reader by inserting it in your columns. It was
addressed to a young lady by the author, previous to
iiis departure or. a northern tour.
To M
;vn.I. vrfl go with ine, my southern maid,
Car aw ay n om this sultry clinic, -
And see how northern ladles and blades
.’.muse them-elves-in lolling time ?—
V,-',-'ll sail in rieasure's barge, lnv love.
Beneath those skies so lair and bnght,
tv he re everv twinkling star, mv love,
Is hnsking'in its own pure light—
But not a star that glimmers there,
Can w ith those eyes of thine compare.
f, ml croft'(leu sireeis to grassy vales,
Where Flora strews her choicest (lowers,
Ami zephyrs breathe melliferous gales,
In more than Arab spicy bowers;
Where streams of purest crystal flow,
Amid their hanks of greenest verdure,
And every plant is seen to grow,
Tint sheds the richest odor—
And many a flower fair they'll shew,
But never one so fair os you.
Will you go with me, my lovely lass,
To'where A ingnra's famous fulls
Attract a motley living mass,
That Fnsltion like t!.- torrent rolls 1
Or to Passaic's cascade pretty—
The Cat skill Mountain* rear'd aloft,
\Moncst smiling girls, with ringlets jetty,
And eves so langnishlngly soft:
llut'nol nil object there to see,
Cun draw my thoughts one hour from thee.
Will you go with me my Georgia maid,
And promenade the lovely Mo!!,
Its gravel walks, so neatly made,
With elms und firs,—the Park and nil ?—
Where Boston folks, so “full of notion',”
Ili-piuy their taste—and their devotions!
Whore going to rhurch is all the tor. ;
And 'nitits ami sinners devoutly mis.
But <!ie the prettiest eves adorn,
Is gaged at oftener than the text!
And pretty faces there may shine,
But ail in vain to rival thine.
Will you go with me my dearest love.
And grace ns you might their magic halls,
Where Youth and Beauty gaily move,
To answer .Music's mirthful calls—
Where daggling lamps, reflected bright,
Shod thousand streams of silver light,’
On hundreds of pretty feet, that there
Arosparkling as they tread the nir—
The fairest of tliem. and fair there be,
Will bile their lips us they look on thee.
Will yon go with me, my rattle maid,
Anil walk by moonlight tinned Broadway,
Where Fashion's vol'ries by thousands trend,
When F.vening's veil shuts out the day I
(The hour of joy, or guilt and sorrow,)
Where love’s delusive dream is tald,
And sighs, that coo! before the morrow,
From hearts in infamy grown old.
Where oaths and vows’are pledged—and broke
Before one moon has run its course,
And hearts arc won to be forsook,
Without a feeling of remorse.
There many loving souls might twine,
But none so close as yours nnd mine.

cern of the Macon Bonk In the recent failure of a re
spectable Merchant in this City,—and to prevent
confidence in any other falsehoods which may issue
from the same orany dlhcr source,—1 deem it my du
ty to state, that the Bank of Macon is imt, nor has
not, been interested in that or nny other failure; that
the discounted paper held by the Bank is considered
undoubted, and will, it isbelieved, lie paid at matu

tire confidence, on the ability of the Bank to meet
promptly all demands which can come against it, (for
which purpose they have now in tb« vaults more spe-

current in this City, and have always been promptly
