Black Island,

The high land isof the firft quality for Cotton,
and the crop of the moll promising kind. It
has alto this advantage, that it may be eaftly
flowed ,with frefh water, and of course equally
well adapted for the culture of rice as of cot
ton. The high land giving complete security
both for settlements and preservation of crops.
It is well known from the fuccefsful experiments
which major Butler lias made by planting limi
lar lands, that they are not only very produc
tive, but the quality of the cotton is much fu
petior to that t ailed on the high land. There

ed by the U. States, forthe troops which are or may
be Rationed, marched or recruited within the town
of Springfield in the Rate of Maflachufetts, and for
the arruurers and other persons employed in the
Unned States’ armory’ at that [dace, from the firft
day of January 1808, to the 31st day of December m
the fame year, both days incluiive.
A ration to confilf of one pound and one quarter
of beef, or three-quarters of a pound of pork, eigh
teen ounces of bread or dour, one gill of rum, wtiif
key or brandy ; and at the rate of two quarts of fait,
tour quarts of vinegar, four pounds of loap, and one
pound and a half of candles, to every- hundred ra
tions. The prices of the several component parts of
the ration ilia.ll be fpecifieu ; but the United States
reserve the right of making Inch alterations m the
price of the component parts of the ration aforefaid,
as (hall make the price of each part thereof bear a
just proportion to the proposed price of the whole
ration. The rations are to be furnilhed in such
quantities, that there ihall at all times, during the
term of the proposed contract, be futlicient for the
cor.lumption of the troops at M chihmackinac, De
troit and Chikago, lor fix months in advance, and
aiaech of the other polls on the we..ern ua.ers, for
at laeall three months m advance, of good and
wholesome proviiions, if the fame Ihall be required

commandants of fortified places or poits, to call for,
at feafons when the lame can be transported, or at
any time, in case of urgency, such fuppties of like
proviiions in advance, as in the difc.etion cf the

expence and riik of issuing the lupplies to the troop?,
and that all losses fuftamed by the depredations of an

ihall be paid by the United States at the price of the

depolition of two or more persons of credible cha
racters and the certificate of a comnultioued officer,

The privilege is underltood to be reserved to the
United States of requiring that none of the lupplies,
which may be furnilhed tinder any of the pro|>oled
contraiffs, ihall be issued, until the supp ies which have
been or maybe furnilhed under cAurafU now in
force, have been consumed; and that a supply in ad
vance may be always required at any of the fixed nous
on the leaboard, or Indian frontier, rot exceeding

washer, &c. and occalionally has worked in the
field. I expedt that said wench has gone to
Auguita, or was landed at Purisburgh, as £
have reason to apprehend, that she left this
in one of the Augusta boats.

hand; he has a wife at Mrs Haills on Wilming

are cautioned not to harbour, employ or take
him away, as the law will be rigoroudy enforced
againit them. Whoever will return him to the
fubferiber, or lodge him in goal in Savannah,
ftiall receive the above reward.
