LONDON, September 6.
A r.cat ir>Ue tiutuuc, fifed up L-y the T'entF
officers upon pa: ale at Cupar, Fife, was opened
on the 27<:h nit. for the Isrsi lime. A prologue,
composed by one of the gentlemen, compli
mentary to the inhabitants for their hospitali’y
to the cap ives, was spoken and acted. It was
followed With Lr* Folic* Amrarcturt, s come
dy in verse, by Regrsard, and the afterpiece of
J,c Qualeme. They have been in every thing
tbeir own artists. The sGene painting, tl.c in
terior decorations cf ihc theatre, tile arrange
ment of the coscume, the ge ting up of a corn-
~-'ete stage apparatus, 2nd, above all, the form-
fbg of a most cxcellcnt-band tor the orcbes*ra,
atcail t'ne»r own doings. The prologue went
off successfully, and the comedy and after-piece
were extremely well played. The French
-style of acting is ..me rapid anti vehement
than ours: on this occasion, too, the iemaie
characters were represented by persons of the
other sex ; yet these peculiarities did not pre
sent a t.umerona audience, many of whom ne
cessarily knew little of the language, horn be
ing highly amused with the good acting.
Mr. Coates is a gentleman ol considerable
