BELLE AT THE STUDY.
Who comes knocking at the door ?
“ Let me in.” says Belle.
Ah. I’ve heard that voice before!
‘•Let me in,” says BelJe,
“I will be so good and still *
Dear papa, you know I ill
Just a little corner till.
Let rue in, ” says Belle.
So I spoke the welcome word,
‘•Come in. little Belie 1”
Her two little feet I heard;
“Here I come,” says Belle.
In there peeped a golden head,
Chubby tace, with cheeks so red;
“Welcome, little one !” I said,
“Herel come,” says Bslle.
I was tired and fall of gloom
When you came, my Belle :
Dark and lonely seemed the room
Till you came, my Belle ;
But your presence changed it quite,
For you brought a flood of light;
Made my study warm and bright,
Sunny little Belle.
CIGARETTA.
Oh little tantalizing twists—
Unsatisfying thing!
£>ix whiffs and one no more exists—
Oft five the ending brings.
-And yet for 3-011 1 left my pipe,
That brown and ancieat bowl
Os ample size, ana colors ripe,
That oft had soothed my cool—
For you whose smoke smarts in my eyes,
And tingles in my nose;
Whose odors of burnt paper rise
Where its incense arose !
Kefeuui, O amber censer mine !
Avaunt ye, cigarette!
And, Pipe with whom I woo the Nine
My fickleness forget!
