SAVANNAH, GEORGIA, MONDAY, JANUARY S, I860.'
The Savannah Daily HeraM
Tke K»«'»ped Centre
The Dahlia Evening ^st says : “Tie re
port that Stephens b°J arrived in Paris is
stated to he fully -'unrmed. It is further
stated that his er' adll,ou * las been demand
ed by the Britv 1 government on the ground
of prison br<" Kin,f ’ t0 - which demand the
French gc erninejpt replied by referring the
British ®* ni8ter . tp the crime for which
Step!' J9 was originally committed, con-
thut the minor offence el - prison
j,~ak:ng is merged in the high political
. rime imputed, and refusing, consequently,
to surrender the retugee.”
The Drogheda correspondent of Saun
ders’ Newsletter, on the other hand, says :
“There are strong grounds for believing that
.Stephens is still on Irish soil. No sensible
person would doubt this who had the op
portunity of frequently passing through the
rural districts and entering into conversation
with the young men of the peasant class, who
are evidently connected with the Fenian
Society, and who assert that Stephens, even
at the risk of his life, most remain in Ire
land, as the Head Centre of this country.
When asked, a few days ago, why it was
that Stephens would be so foolish as to re
main here, knowing that one thousand
pounds were offered' for bis apprehension,
and that should he again be taken all chance
of eecape might be given up forever, a shrewd
country lady remarked: -‘Would you want
a genet al to leave his army?, Stephens is
sworn to remain with his men. Others, argue
that should the Head Centre fly from the
country he would be considered as having
abdicated, and that no Fenian, after such a
circumstance would occur, was for a mo
ment bound to the oath he had taken: There
is a strong belief entertained in many remote
districts that Jas. Stephens is not only recently
located in this country, but that he continues
to issue despatches, ■ from time to time,
through the country to the A's and B's. An
other significant fact connected with Fenian-
isin is the great sympathy evinced for each
prisoner who receives his sentence in Dublin,
and for those who are in prison. It is con
fidently believed that- subscriptions are being
collected throughout different districts of the
country for the support of the wives and.
families of all who are or may be arrested
for Fenianlsm who are not provided enough
to afford the means of sustenance themselves,
and that even respectable farmers are co
erced to contribute to the funds."

1 rather like waterfalls-
I kent tell why, enny more than I kan tell
why I love kastor ile—but ile is good lor la-
zyness in the system.
I don’t like lazynesa ov euny sort—not
even in mustketers.
1 want my musketers lively.
But aul this is foreign to mi purpose.
I like waterfalls—they are so eazy and
nateral.
They attack all the sex.
Some they attack with grate fury, while
others they approach more like a siege, work
ing up slowly.
I saw one yesterday.
It was no bigger than a small French
turnip.
It had attacked a small womau of only nine
summers duration.
She was full ov recreation, and when she
bounded along the sidewalk (it wus on the
west side ov St. Clair street, in the city ov
Cincinnaty, foroenst Baker & Davis’ yaller
sope store) the waterfall highsted up and
down in a oscillating manner, resembling the
sporting terminus ov a bob tailed lamb in a
great hurry
The effect WU9 -electrick.
I also saw another one pretty soon which
belonged to a mature matron.
She might have seen To summers, her hair
wus white as flour (Perkins’ ‘A,’ worth 15
dollars a barrel, delivered,) but the waterfalL
wus black.
1 asked a bystander how he could account
for that
He sed ‘it wus younger.’
I also saw another one pretty soon, which
wus the property of a gusher.
She was-19 years old and as ripe as a 2
year peach.
She swept the streets like a thing ov life.
Boys pocketed their marbles in Silence.
# Men stopped to gsreas she passed and put
in a new chaw ov tobaqker.
Little boyS pocketed their marbles in si
lence-
Her waterfall wus about the size ov a com
basket turned inside out.
It was enclosed in a kind ov skalp net,.,
and kivered with biasing diamonds ov glass-
It shone in the sun like the tin dome of the
court house where the supervisers meet..
But 1 rather like waterfalls.
It haz bin sed that they would runout, bur
this I reckon is a error, for 1 dont see any
sign of a leak yet. r •
