AKTKMCS Ward’s Lecture.—It is scarcely neces-
to remind our readers that the world-famous
humorist, Artemus Ward, delivers hts first lecture at
tll( , t |,outre this evening. From what we have read
and heard about him, we feel that we may safely
iromlsetlic lovers of true humor a rare intellectual
tr'.’U. speaking of him the Augusta Conetitution-
uiist says:
■•Thereat name of lids genuine humorist and genla 1
wit is Charles F. Brown, of Cleveland, Ohio, where
ltr flc , mc years lie was editorially connected with the
•■Piaindoaler” of that city. Mr. B. is a yonng man
0 i S0IIle twenty-sight years, medium height, regular
natures light hair and blue eyes. In hts entire per
sonal appearance, as is also the case with tile Immor
tal Bill Arp. there is nothing to Indicate th.e posses-
hlou of those exquisitely laeetious powers l .hat would
■ revoke a laugh under the ribs of death.
w hile io New Orleans, it may gratify our readers
who love and venerate ex-President Davis, to know
that Artemas gave one lecture for the exeln live bene
fit of that great man’s estimable wife. The enter-
tamment was an immense success, the Crescsut City
testifying hr a crowded house Its^apprecmatloa at
once of Mr. Brown's courtesy and genius.’’
IVe acknowledge the receipt of a ticket frtitn Arte-

he found his complimentary tickets rather '‘numer
