' Stabbing Affray
Yesterday morning about two o'clock, a serious
stabbing affray took place on Prmldent street, be
tween Montgomery and West Broad streets. K ap
pears there bad been a "party'' somewhere in the
neighborhood at which a quarrel arose, which was
continued In the street One of the parties used a
knife on his antagonist, wounding him severely in the
fleshy part of the leg. The pepetrator was heard to
remark that he would "kin hi. man" and no doubt
intended to carry ft out. The wounded man was ha™
i nto the houae and had his wound dressed, but the
guilty one had not been found up to last evening
though diligent search had been made for him.
Freedman’* Court,
There was nothing of any interest to our readers
transpiring in this Court yesterday. The Judge sent
a corporal and ten men up to Potter's plantation to
bring down lome two hundred and fifty refractory
negroes who refuse to make contracts, anti also a
guard in the streets picking up the idle ones herea
bouts. Tbe guard commenced operations in the Court
House, and astonished several of the loungers in that
place by taking them into custody.
It appears that the negro Middleton, sentenced a
week or so ago to serve six months in the chain gang
for robbing the store of Mr. Nixon, has been released
on the order of the Provost Marshal of the city on the
payment of one hundred and fifty dollars. It has
been reported that the Judges of the Court had appro
priated the money to their own use. This coming to
the ears of the Judge he has asked for an Investigation
by the Provost Marshal, whan he will be able to show
what became of the money and to whom it was paid.
The Judge was bound to obey the order of Colonel
Kimball, and release the negro on the payment of the
money ; and indeed, according to the order of General
Tillson, commanding the Freedman's Bureau in this
district, any negro sentenced for more than sixty
days can be released at any time by order of the Pro
vost Marshal.

Meeting of the Fenian Circle.
A meeting of the Savannah Circle of the Fenian
Brotherhood was held last evening at the store of Mr.
James Skehan, who was lately commissioned Head
Centre for the State of Georgia by Col. John O'Mahony,
Head Centre of the Brotherhood in America. On
motion of Mr. Philip Callanan, Mr. J. J. Purtill waa
appointed secretary.
Mr. Daniel Donnovan, central organizer for Georgia,
then addressed the meeting at considerable length,
explaining the objects and plans of the Fenian
Brotherhood, both in this country and in Ireland.
The remarks of the gentleman met with the warm
approval of the members present, and his eloquent
and stirring appeal in behalf of downtrodden Erin
excited great enthusiasm.
At the conclusion of Mr. Donnovan's address, Mr.
M’Cleary moved that a committee of three be ap
pointed to procure a hall for the permanent use of the
Brotherhood. The following gentlemen were ap
pointed: John J. Purtill, Patrick O’Toole and Philip
Callanan. The meeting then adjourned, on motion of
Mr. John Deacy, to Monday, the 19th inat, at the store
of Head Centre Skehan.
, The < a ;e of Thomas Fee!#;-.
Justice Hart yesterday afternoon gave his decision
in this case. Mr. Barnard, of the firm of Richardson
A Barnard, having a suspicion that some boots and
shoes, which he had lost some months ago, were ln
the hands of Mr. Feeley.he had a search warrant taken
out and a search of the premises instituted. It appears
that the only way he could identify the goods was by
the peculiarity of the make as described in his invoice.
He found some shoes in the store corresponding to
these marks ; one pair of which he took to a shoe deal
er in this city, who examined them and pronounced
them precisely the same as his invoice called for. The
officer then took possession of all of this make he could
find on his second visit, which were only three pairs.
Mr. Barnard testified that the defendant had told
him he had sixty pairs of these same shoes, but he waa
unable to find on his second visit more than three.
The officers, however, took a case or so of boots and
shoes, and advertised for two days in the daily papers
for persona who bad lost such articles to appear and
see if they might identify any of these goods. The
only person appearing was Mr. Michael Daly, a boot
and shoe dealer, who claimed three pairs of ladles'
shoes which Mr. Barnard claimed as corresponding
with his invoice. He stated that the three pairs had
been stolen from his front door one evening, and that
he positively knew these were the same shoes.
After hearing all the testimony. Justice Hart decided
to dismiss the case in relation to Messrs. Richardson
& Barnard, but held Mr. Thomas Feeley to bail in the
sum of one thousand dollars, to answer the charge of
rsceiving goods stolen from Mr. Michael Daly.
Police Affairs.
Yesterday morning, before His Honor, Mayor Ander
son, Daniel Rose, a German, was charged with drunk
enness and disorderly conduct In the house of Mr.
Walbur, on West Broad street. He had been engaged
in a row in the street, and had gone Into the houae
and commenced smashing tumblers and pitchers,
when sergeant of police arrested him and took him
to the barracks. He was then bonded out, and almost
immediately returned to the same place and commenc
ed his noise, when the officer waa obliged to arrest him
again and carry him to the barracks. He was noisy
and abnsive, and when about to be bonded out again
refused to sign the bond. He was fined twenty dol
lars and costs.
James Flynn was charged with being drunk and
disorderly, in the streets on Tuesday night, and In
sulting females on the way, refusing to desist when
requested to do so by the officer. Fined twenty dol
lars. , i
A man was arraigned on the charge of creating a
disturbance in hit own house on Sunday evening last,
but from the testimony it appeared that he had been
struck in the head with a bottle ln the hands of a wo
man who had thrown It through a window, and was
making the noise on occount of the pain which tbe cut
had caused. It was testified by one of the sergeants
who was a neighbor that his house was generally a
quiet and orderly one, and he otherwise bore a good
character. Tbe case was dismissed.
A policeman waa arraigned on the chyge of being
drunk and unfit for duty on Tuesday night He said
that he waa not in the habit of doing this thing, and
appealed to several gentlemen present to vouch for his
statement The Chief and one of the lieutenants testi
fied that he was a very steady officer, ho having been
reported but once before, and Mayor Anderson fined
him ten dollars, with a promise of a dismissal when
ever it occurred again.
