Remarks.
The market for the past week has been extremely
doll, though prices have generally been maintained.
In some articles there is still an upward tendency
o”ing to an advance in northern markets, but as yet
an advance is not in ftp
In the money market there is more case, and all ex
changes, except on London, sell promptly at hvorable
rates. , Sight on New Tfork is at X per cent, discount
Sterling c is Without, quotation, the recent decline in
gold having unsettled the market.
CoiTow—The market during the week has been ex
tremely feeble, and we hear ot but few sales with
hsrdly s shsde difference in quotations from those a*
the ciose of last week's operations. The following are

Sea Island.—The better grades of this description
only are in demand, with bnt few transactions to
noto.
The receipts since March 1 have been 9,789 bales
of Upland and 186 Sea Island. The exporta during
the same period have been 8,452 bales Upland and 104
Sea Island, leaving on hand and on shipboard, not
cleared, a stock of 17,396 bales Upland, and 1,240 bales
Sea Island.

remain firm, and we quote at from $7 to $9.
Bacon—The stock on hand continues Urge, with but
a moderate demand, and prices remain firm. We
quote Ribbed Hides at 2oc, clear do at 18(2-23; Shoul
ders at 17(3)19; Hams (Canvassed) 23@26; Sugar Cured

B.v-iiisn—The market continues dull, with but few
sak-H 30>,'<ii.31c for Gunny ; and Sea Island, at 30®33r.
Bftteb—The market continues well supplied and
the demand moderate. ITices have not materially
changed, though, with an upward tendency. We
quote prime Goshen, in tubs, at 46®59c; in firkinB at
45'2>48e.
Biscuit—The market continues well supplied, but
the demand moderate. We have no change to note in
prices, nnd quote soda biscuit at 12c; sugar at 16c; but
ler at 12c; lemon, in boxes, 20c; in bbls ISc; Boston
13c.
Cirrc—There is no change in the market. The
stock on hand is good and the demand fair. Prices
remain nrm at last week's quotations. Champagne ci
der $17 si bbl; and Thompson's preserved (40 gal.) at
$20 ¥ bbL
Coftee—There is but a moderate demand for coffee
and no arrivals. ‘Prices remain firm and we quota 8t.
Dr-mingo at 29(2,30c; Rio at 28®31c; and Java at 42
(243c.
Corn —The market remains glutted and vary much
depreased with a small demand, and prices are still
declining. We hear of one large sale of 4,000 bushels
Prim* white St $1 15. There is but little prime mixed
Western in the market, and that is held at $1 16 In
bulk from store; prime yellow is held at $112>4; and
white at 41 15@$1 20 from wharf.

Flour—We have no improvement to notice in tlio
market, which is well supplied, with a fair demand,
and prices remain firm at our last quotations. Good
Ohio $10 ; good Family $12® $14 ; and ordinary $8 00
®$10.
' Fruit.—The market continues dull with vory few
arrivals, and prices remain about at last week's figures.
Oamges arc more plenty, and prices have declined.
They are selling at $4®»o 9 box ; lemons arc
more plentiful, and selling at $4@$6 ¥ box. We
quote litis at 2f>®35c per drum; cocoanuts, $14 $ 100;
almonds, 24®25c fl It; walnuts, 24c $ lb; palm nuts,
23c; prunes in jars, 49c, and plums, 22c 78 lb.
Gci.rowdeb.—The market is well supplied, with but
moderate demand. PrieeB remain as last week, and we
quote Hazard’s Miiia Kentucky R. P. Powder, in kegB,
at $10 5u; in half kegs, $5 75; quarters, $3; Fairlawn
brand, in cases, 75c 78 lb; Kentucky llifle, in cases, 80c;
Indian Rifle, in canisters, 80c.
Hat.—There have been small arrivals, and the de
mand from thb. interior continues good. Price* remain
lirm. and we quote prime northern, from wharf, at
$1 85, and from store at $2 $ 100 lbs.
Hides—The demand continues good, but tho
ii light. Prices remain firm '

Lumber—We hsve no heavy transactions to notice,
but hear of a good many ordet a on the market Prices
remain unchanged, but deliveries for the future might
be had on batter terms.
Lime.—There are no arrivals, and the demand con
tinues gopd It is selling at retail from $3 to 3 50.
Machkiael—There is but a limited supply in the
market and the demand is moderate. Prices are
without change at hut week's quotations; No. 3 Bos
ton family at $8; No. 1, in half bbls. $9 56@10; No. 2
do, $9; No. 1, in kits, $3; No. 2 do, $2 76; Codfish, in
drums, 9@llc y. lb.
Molasses—The market remains unchanged- The
supply is good and dernsnd moderate. Prices are
about the same as at the close of our last weekly re
port. Golden syrup, 06l2,70c; Porto Rico, 65®70c
Muscovado, new crop, alLSOAflOc; old crop, 45®50c
nqw clayed Cuba, 48®50c, and old do, 45@60c; New
York refined syrup, 75@B0c; -

Oats—The Btock on hand remains large, although
there have been no arrivals worthy of note, and the

75c from wharf, and 85®90c from store. Beach seed

Oil Cam—The market continues dull, with bnt
small sales, at $5 ^ 100 lbs.
Onions.—The market continues well supplied, with
but moderate demand. Prices *re .unchanged, and we
quote from store at $3®$3 25 7$ bbl.
Oils.—'The market is dull, with but few sales. The
stock is good and prices remain firm. We quote lin

Shot —There is very little'demand for thia article
and the market is fully supplied. Prices, however, re

Soap—The market is abundantly supplied, and the
demand for the home trade continues moderate.
Prices remain unchanged. We quota Colgate A
Hall's family brands at 15c y, ft; moody A Barrett's

Brown’s family soap at 12Xc.

ticle, both aa to arrivals and demand, and there are bnt
few ships in port requiring freights. Holders, in oBif-
sequence, find some difficulty in making sales. De
sirable lots are, however, difficult to obtain, and ate
only to be had by keeping a close eyo on receipts.
Prices are somewhat irregular and probably from $2
to $3 lower.
