PROSPERITY OF. HAMBURG, (8. C.)
Mr. Eoitor—In accordance with nature, inen
will speak about matters promoting their interest
ahd gratify their feelings—I tuko pleasure in say
ing tojrou that on Thumluy, Uio 31st Obtober,
1839, there was received in the Town of Hamburg
one thousaud and twenty-four (1044) bales Cot
ton, besides Flour, Bacon, Ate. This is tho larg
est number of bales received in any one day since
Hamburg hw beun built. This may not be con
sidered great in a Town on the scu-stioro, where
steamboats aud ships bring and carry from 1 to
2000 bales at u time, but toe call it great where this
number of bales is brought by wagons', say 0 or 7
bales to a load.
Although our street* are 100 feet wide, yet they
were literally blocked up with ^wagons. It is a
shipping trade that supports a seu<port Town—
but it is a wagon trade that sustains an inland
Town.
